“It is a best kept secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2010

This was one of the most enjoyable get-aways we have had in a very long time. The entire staff at Pacific Terrace went out of their way to make our stay pleasurable. Particulary we appreciated the quality of furnishings, decore and ambiance and the high standards for cleanliness, customer service and most certainly the sound of the ocean waves washing against the shores 24 hours a day. Actually, we would do better not recommending this hotel, for it would be to our benefit us to keep it a best kept secret!

One of several stays on the the Southern California coast. We had a one bedroom w/ kitchenette. While the room was huge-we found there was alot of wasted spaceand ineffecient use of the large space. A bit over "decorated" for a beach hotel. One huge bathroom with a large plasma screen tv (never even turned it on)and lots of mirrors. One problem with 5 of us including teenage girls-there was no privacy (or separate shower area) in the BR- so if someone was showering you couldnt use the mirrors to do hair/make up, etc. There was not a separate area in the main room to get ready. Staff was very nice and accomodating. Location is great-near LaJoya and San Diego. One of the nicer hotels in the Pacific beach area-we would stay in LaJoya or San Diego if we came again...Pacific Beach was more of a college crowd beach and we ended up driving into San Diego alot. (3 night stay). Overall a nice hotel with spacious rooms and a great staff. Nice beach views and decent pool.

It's a toss-up...either the staff or the location vies for first place, but both are outstanding. We've not found many hotels that have prepared their staff as well as this to welcome and acknowledge guests at every opportunity. The concierge was knowledgeable and helpful in dining arrangements. The breakfast crew was wonderful. The place is not inexpensive but is well worth every cent. The property lies on the walk along the pacific ocean. A seven mile walk along the ocean and along mission bay makes for an unforgettable workout. There are so many sights along the way the miles fly by. We've been at Pacific Terrace half a dozen times and have never been disappointed. We can't wait to get back.

Hotel is situated on the north end of Pacific Beach. You can walk to restaurants and bars.
You can rent bikes, walk, roller blade, or just walk the coastline. We visted the zoo, old town and did the segway tour which is all 5-10 minutes from the hotel. There si never any traffic in the city

Had a room overlooking the ocean and saw dolphins in the morning and awesome sunsets.

Really liked the Pacific Terrace hotel. It's a smaller three story hotel overlooking Pacific Beach, separated from the beach by the popular 3 1/2 mile boardwalk. Our room was nice, decorated in a Caribbean/tropical theme. Nice limestone bathroom, separate sink area with a mini fridge.
Everyone working there is super friendly and helpful. Complimentary continental breakfast included lots of choices: cereals, fruit, yogurt, bagels, pastries, coffee, juice. At breakfast you can also pay for a cooked meal, but lunch and dinner are not offered, nor is there a bar in the hotel. (Complimentary glass of wine delivered to your room on your first night, and of course, lots of watering holes nearby.)
I think all the rooms have at least a partial ocean view, which is how our room (208) was listed, but I really couldn't have asked for more "view." Our balcony was good sized, overlooking the ocean and the courtyard where the pool and hot tub are. Didn't make it for a workout in the fitness center which is a small room in the parking garage, but got plenty of exercise on the boardwalk and in the pool.
The location is great, couldn't be closer to the water, and right on the city bus line. Lots of restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance. Loved Pizza Amore for salad and thin crust New York style pizza. Would not return to the Green Flash restaurant, and the restaurant JRDN (yes, that's spelled correctly) was too hip for us---think "ultra lounge" but the food was good (and pricey).
I would definitely return, but probably only in winter. If you're a people-watcher you'll love the 24/7 walker-jogger-bike-rollerblade-segway-skateboard-dog-stroller traffic (got the picture?) on the boardwalk, but if you like your privacy you might find the constant parade a little intrusive. Even though the courtyard and pool area are walled and gated, a large part of the wall is glass so that you can see the ocean, but the boardwalk users can look into the courtyard and even into your room if you haven't closed your shutters. In January even during bad weather, the boardwalk was used pretty heavily and I'm sure it's crazy crowded in summer. But that's the urban beach scene and I don't fault the hotel itself for that.

The Pacific Terrace is an out of this world hotel with an ideal location in one of the best cities for vacationing ever!. It is small enough to be inviting and cozy, but comes with the service of a larger hotel. The accommodations are superb, magically making you feel like you’re retreating in the tropics; with plantation shutters you’ll want to take home, lovely tapestries, and great beds all within a spacious and comfortable oasis. This hotel truly exemplifies excellent customer service! All of the welcoming hotel staff is exceptional, from the cheerful front desk employees ready to lend a hand in any situation to the caring and efficient parking attendants. (My daughter and I were visiting colleges and we asked a lot of info from the guys up front…pay attention to their “local” picks!) The ocean breezes will lull you to sleep (we kept our doors open to the Pacific every night!) and the deep blue Pacific turns a golden ginger with the breathtaking sunsets you can watch from your patio! Days can be as relaxing or busy as you want; attractions are just a few miles away but far enough to leave that bustle behind! A few steps and you’re feet are in the sand, the walking path is just steps away, and the pool and jacuzzi are sparkling! The photos really might not do it justice! We highly recommend this hotel!
