We stayed at the Pacific Terrace from Dec 5-8. I had read all of your reviews before and called to find out particulars and request an ocean view room. There was a $129/night special, which is a great deal.

I will try to give as objective a review as possible:

Positives: Nice size rooms with good european bath amenities. Clean. No mice/rats/roaches, although it was the winter season. Nice breakfast and turn-down service. Overall the staff are quite nice and accomodating. The location is great- very safe. Parking with in and out priveleges is $8/day. They only have about 5-6 "free" parking spots outside. The remaining are used to store construction equipment. You can use the business center with internet access for free for 15 minutes- just enough time to catch up on email.

Negatives: They were renovating the pool and jaccuzi. They didn't mention this to me although I had called numerous times in advance. We were unable to use the pool or jaccuzi during our entire stay. They kept telling us they would be ready- ofcourse they never were. No apologizes, no partial refunds. The hotel wasn't booked the entire time, but they didn't give us a direct ocean view. Only a partial view.
If everyone staying there gets the best rate (ie. 129/night) they would be forced to give out at least some of the ocean view rooms. Our shower was broken, but it took them 8 hours to send someone to repair it.
Again, no apologizes.

Overall not a bad experience, but I wouldn't stay there again given the lack of information about the renovations.

I thought this was a great property. We stayed in an ocean view room and the room was awesome, great view, huge balcony & the staff was awesome. You can get good rates through www.expedia.com - I would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat.

The hotel is very nice - well kept and a lovely facility. However, they use blatant bate and switch tactics with room locations and reservations. They actually have relatively few ocean view rooms but will take your upgrade money when making a reservation and promise an ocean view. Upon check in, when you find that you did not get ocean view, they will claim that this is only a "request" and they don't have any right now, unless you are willing to pay an additional $150 per night. Take it or leave it, they keep your money and that's it.It's a scam but it works for them!

I was very impressed with this hotel. It is in the heart of the Pacific Beach area of San Diego, with easy access to anywhere in San Diego. The neighborhood was a little seedy, but the hotel property itself was very nice. The beach was GREAT for a California beach. We were there in late August, and the water was warm enough for body surfing and boogie boarding. It was also fun watching the surfers.

The hotel itself offers few amenities, but you can easily order in food and drinks from nearby restaurants. The pool area is very nice. The continental breakfast was great, and the afternoon wine and cheese was also wonderful. You could eat your breakfast or drink your wine right by the pool and enjoy the ocean views.

We stayed in 3 different rooms during our stay (2 different Junior Suites, and the Family Suite). The Family Suite was a little on the small side (2 rooms, one bathroom) considering the price. The first Junior Suite we got was on the first floor with a partial ocean view, and our view was mostly of a parking lot. The second Junior Suite was 3rd floor, full ocean view, and it was spectacular. If you book a regular room or a Junior Suite, be sure to get a 3rd floor room with a full ocean view.

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone, and am looking forward to going back there again someday!

Expensive and luxurious; professional staff; clean and attractive rooms; great location for easy beach access. I called two months ahead of time and the deluxe oceanfront rooms were all booked, so we splurged on the Presidential Suite here for 1/2 our vacation and chose a budget-rate hotel for the other 1/2. Huge, gorgeous room on the third floor in the center, facing the ocean. Totally outrageous expense for we middle-class travelers since we never used the kitchen, jacuzzi tub, or huge stereo sound system. However, we totally indulged in the pool, deluxe (really!) continental breakfast, great location on beach and boardwalk for interesting people-watching. You're NOT in a La Jolla type neighborhood, but it didn't feel scummy or dangerous. There were many families at the PTI and couples of all age ranges. We gladly paid the $8.00/day parking since street parking is extremely difficult and the rental car was nice and safe. The staff was gracious and expedient with requests. In fact, I needed a doctor on a Sunday afternoon and the staff called one who came to the hotel within the hour! (The bill was high, of course, but less than the room rate :0). Overall, I would come back here to stay if I could get a deluxe oceanfront room or jr. suite.
The standard rooms without a view and possible street-level noise may not be worth the expense if you like seeing the water from a balcony to feel good on vacation.
