Recently stayed one night at Keating House after golf trip in Ensenada. When you combine close location to airport, Balboa park/zoo and restauants with the friendly owners and comfortable rooms this place is hard to beat. The price was right and the breakfast excellent. Parking was easy on the street. Will stay here again.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay earlier this month (January 2005). The owners were very friendly, and we got the best 'run-down' of things to do in the area I think I've ever received at a B&B. The house is nicely decorated and furnished, and it's central to most everything you'd want to do. We decided not to rent a car this trip and were glad - we walked everywhere, and just took a taxi to and from the airport. Balboa Park is practically next door, just a few blocks up the street. And even the ferries (we went to Coronado island for the day) aren't a long walk, particularly in the beautiful San Diego weather.

A previous reviewer noted that the flight path is close by - true, but we honestly didn't notice anything and had no problem at all with the noise.

The food was outstanding both mornings - delicious fresh bread, fresh fruit and various egg dishes.

We were treated very well and felt the owners were new friends at the end of our stay. I think that's what staying in a B&B is all about!

My husband and I stayed at the Keating House last May and we had a wonderful experience. We often stay at bed and breakfasts so we are able to compare it to others around the country. The owners were more than accomodating. Like another review said, Ben and Scott, upon our arrival, helped us get acquainted with the city since it was our first time in San Diego. They took their time with us, showing us maps and giving us brochures and restaurant recommendations. We stayed in the Music Room on the first floor and we loved it. The room was beautiful (as was the rest of the house!), and we had our own bathroom, which was a great size and very clean. The location was perfect - only a few blocks away from Balboa Park and a decent walk to downtown San Diego. We were not bothered by the noise. In fact, that was one of our concerns having read some of the reviews before we went on our trip. It was only after our stay that I remembered the complaints. The noise did not bother us at all! And the breakfasts were delicious each morning. I was offended by the "gay" comment posted by a previous reviewer. My husband and I were treated with nothing but kindness and I think that was a very cheap shot to make. We loved the Keating House and would definitely stay here upon future returns.

spent the Veteran's day weekend at the Keating House for our first trip to San Diego. Upon arrival, the owners gave us a quick orientation of the area including recommendations for restaurants, clubs, museums, etc. They are a wealth of knowledge so use them. The best dinner we had was their recommendation of Fifth & Hawthorn. And it was a steal with their price-fixe menu. It helps to have a car in San Diego and it was nice that street parking was free and abundant. Stayed in the Blue Room, because the four larger rooms that we had requested were already booked (and we booked a month in advance!) While the room itself and bathroom were a bit small, they were very clean and homey. (The larger yellow and music rooms definitely would be worth the extra $25 per night). Contrary to what others have said on this site, breakfast was always cooked to order, fresh and delicious. Almost every reviewer has mentioned noise from the nearby airport. And while it is true that planes fly low overhead, it is no noisier than normal street or highway traffic. If any noise bothers you, you should probably stay at a small town bed and breakfast rather than in one of the ten largest cities. We hope to be back.
