“Just what I wanted”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

I was spending a night in San Diego on the way back from a vacation, in order to attend a show at The Old Globe in Balboa Park. True to its billing, Keating House Inn is an easy walk to the park (although not quite as easy in high heels). Doug and Ben were excellent hosts. Ben spent a significant amount of time with me pointing out possible areas for a meal before the show, and sent me off with an annotated map of the area so I could explore and choose. My friends and I had an excellent meal at Bankers Hill.

I stayed in the Blue Room, which was delightfully cozy and exceptionally clean. Breakfast was fabulous. I will definitely keep Keating House Inn in mind for any future stays in San Diego.

We were able to snag a two day stay at Keating House due to a last minute cancellation. What luck! After reading reviews on TripAdvisor, I was enchanted, but figured they would be full due to it being a weekend. We were walking distance to everything, including the Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park that we had tickets to a Sunday show.

We arrived around 7:00 pm and the proprietors greeted us warmly and showed us around the historic property. We stayed in the old 'chauffeur' quarters in the guest house. The room was charming, the bed super comfy and we had a little balcony off the bedroom to view the gardens below.

Both breakfasts were fantastic (frittatas to die for and homemade bread!) and we walked to and from the waterfront from the house, so we were able to park our vehicle for the 2 days we were there.

I can't rave enough about this B&B and the wonderful hosts. :)

This an old home on 2nd Ave at Bankers Hill area. It is walking distance to Balboa Park and 5th Ave restaurants but you need a car. It has small size rooms with antiques and modern bathrooms. The owners are vegetarian so expect a wonderful quiche and fresh fruit. They are lovely hosts and the area is a safe neighborhood to walk in. I try to stay here every time I come to San Diego the price you can not beat $119.00 a night

Great location, very clean, the place has an old feel to it with some rough edges, but it just what you would want for a true "Back in time" experience. No TV, good wifi, so watch Netflix on your notebook. I stayed in the Auroa Room. On the first floor, just off the dining room. It had French doors out to a charming patio and table, Metal frame bed, a few spring noises but I slept very well. Breakfast was homemade and excellent. Don't expect greasy eggs and bacon but a very healthy meal made with locally sourced fresh ingrediants. The fresh mango was the best I have ever had. If you want a luxurious box room in the sky, this not your place. If you want to experience a simple but relaxing way of travel, you should definitely try the Keating House Inn.

I have stayed at the Keating House mutiple times and always had a great experience. The hosts, Doug and Ben, are professional, knowledgeable, and very accomodating. They do lots of extra little things, like prepare homemade, healthy breakfasts using high quality ingredients, provide directions, restaurant recommendations, beach towels, etc that make your visit even better. The house keeping staff does a great job and you are sure to be comfortable here.
This is a great home away from home - you can keep a few things in the fridge, nice tables among the garden to enjoy a snack or meal, free wifi, easy parking.
A very well run B&B and in a great neighborhood - convenient to just about everything.

We couldn't have asked for a better place in San Diego to enjoy our 10 year anniversary.

Ben and Doug are wonderful hosts. Prior to our arrival they helped guide us to a nice choice for a seafood restaurant. They clearly take pride in operating a well run bed and breakfast that feels like home.

The neighborhood was surprisingly quiet. We had a room in the front of the house and had our windows open the entire time we were there and rarely heard any noises---it was actually nice to hear the occasional dog bark. Like many of the historic neighborhoods of San Diego, the house is close to the flight path for San Diego Airport. You notice the planes at first but they weren't disruptive at all. Much less disruptive than the typical noises you hear staying in a hotel room.

Parking was never a problem. We almost always found a parking spot directly in front of the house.

Our room and bathroom were both spotlessly clean and furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and vintage items. The bed was comfortable and the towel warmer in the bathroom was a nice touch I wasn't expecting. Breakfast both mornings was delicious and gave us a chance to visit with some of the other guests staying at Keating House.

We will most definitely be back.

This centrally located B&B is run by great hosts who enjoy people and love their city. You won't do better than Ben's insights on where to go, how to get there, and what/when to eat. Breakfasts are tasty and lasting, and our room was very comfortable. Yes, you'll hear the airplanes, but that's unavoidable if you want to be within walking distance of most top attractions. We hope to go back.
