On the plus side, the best thing about the hotel is the location, right in the heart of the Downtown area, close to many attractions, restaurants, shopping or just a bus or tram ride away from others. I was in room 910 (outside view) which was comfortable and adequate for my purposes, bed was huge and the decoration fine. Staff were friendly and helpful.
However, be warned, there are pitfalls and traps. Other reviews have mentioned the noise from the street if on the lower floors. Upper floors get this also but they also get the constant drone and whine of the rooftop air conditioning unit. It really is extremely annoying and it was only on the last night of my stay did I get any decent sleep.
And guys, the toilets are very shallow and very full. Stand well back if you can to avoid splashing. The room's small fridge is located in a cupboard by the sink. Open the fridge from the bottom if you do not want to scrape your knuckles on the side or top of the cupboard.
The window is very large and lets in a lot of light but I was very confused as to why the net curtains were inside the main curtains. I had to open the nets before I could open the main curtains and then close the nets again otherwise the guys in the NBC building nearby would have got an unpleasant fright.
The walls of the building are also very thick which means that rooms have window seats with un-fixed cushions but the window sills are lower than the seats so if you sit on the cushion, it slides across and down the gap between the wall and the window and takes you with it. Very dangerous.
The hotel also has a rooftop terrace that is very pleasant to use for breakfast or sunbathing or just to enjoy views of part of the city. However, at night it is poorly lit and the dark, low sun loungers are dangerous when one is wandering around trying to get some photographs. My scars have still not healed after two months.
I have stayed at this hotel before and had trouble with air-con noise and plumbing then but, in a country that sometimes seems obsessed with health and safety (I work for a US company and they are obsessed with h&s along with other spurious concepts), there does seem to be a lack of it at this establishment.
Maybe my next visit to San Diego will be at another hotel.
I am not sure there are any goods rooms due to noise from either the street or the air conditioning...
