“Everything you ever dreamed about a zoo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

This was not my first visit and I hope it is not my last. Got there early with a simple bus trip from our hotel and a short walk to the gate. I took the 30 minute guided tour and learned what had changed from my last visit and had a nice overview of the complex (but unfortunately had a guide who talked as much about herself and her opinions as she did the zoo and its operations). I really enjoyed the walks through various aviaries and took the opportunity to savor the wonderful display of plants in addition to the animal collection. Even saw hippos cavorting in the water!
This is a must destination for all tourists to San Diego

“Loved the Gorillas!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

The San Diego Zoo is extremely clean and well maintained. All the animals were out to see. I love that the animals areas are very large and built to resemble their natural habitats. The Gorillas were amazing and such beautiful animals.

“Never bad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Went to the zoo on the Sunday of Veteran's Day Weekend and it was busy but very enjoyable. Loved the pandas and the polar bears the most. Wish the food were a little more affordable, though.

“Mostly good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Overall I enjoyed my visit here. It's actually quite a compact zoo which is easily navigable on foot by someone with reasonable fitness. Something I've never come across before is the undulating paths around some enclosures which enable you to see the animals from viewpoints other than the conventional ground level.
One criticism I would make is that the gift shops seemed to only contain the normal tourist tat instead of a range of educational books that would be helpful to someone willing to learn more about individual species they've just seen.

“Great zoo in a small area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This zoo has a really nice setup. Although it doesn't actually cover as much acreage as it seems, it has the feeling of a larger place because of the great layout. There are rows of trees between the different sections, lots of walking if you want to, or a bus system if you don't want to walk. The skyfari (overhead tram) is a terrific way to get an overview of the zoo. This zoo has a good reputation and deserves it. I would have had to do more than one day here to really take it all in, but one day was enough to really enjoy it.
