I was on vacation in San Diego with my husband and we visit Seaport Village. I decided I wanted some ice cream and saw the Ben N Jerry's Ice Cream Shop. I went in and stood in line behind another customer being served. Two other couples came in behind me. There were two workers behind the counter. The young lady was helping the customer in front of me. However, the young man behind the counter approached the counter and asked the two couples behind me if he could help them. I said, excuse me, but I believe I was next. He did not acknowledge me. but asked the two couples again if he could help them. Then one of the ladies said to him, she was next. Still not acknowledging me, he asked her what would you like. She repeated herself, stating I was next. He refuse to serve me. I have never been so insulted. Clearly the white couples behind me felt uncomfortable as well. The young lady behind the counter finished with the couple in front of me and began to apologize. She just whispered, I'm so sorry. I got my chocolate chip ice cream and went outside and told my husband what happen. He said I should not have purchased anything from this company if they discriminate against African American women. I am going to tell the 11000 African American women in all of my professional organizations not two patronize Ben-N-Jerry's in San Diego at Seaport Village!
