5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

We loved it but look out for were you get food one fast food place near the art area was not great. Later we found a covered cafe amazing cakes so look out for that sorry I cant be to specific it was such a big area I can only say it was near the bell tower & fountains. We plan to go back as we ran out of time. They do open air shows we want to do that and see more museums next time.

“Love the Arboreum and it's FREE!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Don't miss the arboreum in the middle of the main walk (domed, wooden slat roof). During warmer months it's filled with orchids and other flowering plants and is gorgeous and FREE! Koi and turtles swim in the long ponds outside of the arboreum. A must see!

“Lots of Things Happening Here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Balboa park was great! It has everything. It has places to relax and read a book in peace and quiet, it had open areas to play frisbee, it has areas with street performers, and even an area where you could hold exotic birds! This is a place you must stop, even if for only 30 minutes! Stop here for a picnic lunch and explore around - you won't be disappointed!

“Great park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

I grew up in this park and it's honestly one of my favorites in the world. It's not the biggest park, but it's still lots of fun. Most of the park is, in itself, an attraction, having been built for two major expos during the first half of the 20th century.
Try to get there early on the summer weekends, to get a good parking spot. Most centralized parking is behind the organ pavilion, but even the more distant parking lots aren't that far from any of the museums.
As for the museums, the current form of the Natural History museum is the most disappointing, it having been recently remodeled and a lot of what used to be standing exhibits now moved or taken away for visiting exhibits and dinosaurs. Great if you're 10, but boring otherwise.
The Air and Space musuem is very good, so is the Art Museum. The Fleet is a science center and IMAX theatre. The science center is weak compared to others (particularly if you're older than 13), but the domed IMAX is well worth seeing. The Museum of Man is housed in a nice domed structure that used to be the main gate to the park. The museum itself is nice enough, but it's also a bit old.
