“Perfect with a toddler”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2011

We stayed here from September 8-12, 2011. It's the perfect location, particularly if you have young children. There's a nice, big playground in the Liberty Station area that only takes 5 minutes to walk to on a nice paved running/biking path from the hotel. Some of the playground is on soft turf and some is on sand, so take your sand toys. The front desk told us they had sand toys we could borrow, but we never did. Next to the playground is a bathroom as well, which is convenient with young kids. The playground was extremely clean and had a nice number of kids playing on it. The playground overlooks a river or inlet of some kind, so nice for the parents to enjoy as well. The beautiful jogging trail goes for miles!

If you want to walk a little further, you can walk 10 minutes from the hotel on a paved path and go over the foot bridge to the bay where there's a beach (Spanish Landing) and the kids can safely play in the water. There's also a playground and a bathroom facility at this area as well.

Trader Joe's is a 10 minute walk from the hotel, which was convenient for us to get some groceries for the mini-fridge in the hotel room. There are many other stores in the same complex as Trader Joe's, but we never checked them out.

Liberty Station (where the hotel is) has several restaurants and we highly recommend Oggi's. When the power was out in all of southern California for 12 hours or so, they were trying to accomodate customers by working in their kitchen by flashlight. Very hard workers and good food!

The front desk staff was wonderful and helpful. They remembered us by name and greeted us each time we came and went. We did rent a car and loved the free parking at the hotel. The hotel itself and the individual rooms are clean and modern. The WiFi worked smoothly for us as well.

Their breakfast buffet was reasonable and we thought it had a nice variety (oatmeal, pastries, cereal, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, bagels, english muffins, juices, coffee, etc) for the price of $10. Was $12 if you wanted the hot food (eggs, waffles, sausage, bacon).

The pool was the perfect temperature and never over crowded when we were there. Although, it is starting to get a little cooler in San Diego at this time of year, especially when the sun goes down, so take layers!

We could hear airplanes from time to time and could see them out our window, but it didn't bother our 3 year old during naps and didn't keep us awake at night. I think the volume of planes flying significantly drops from 11 PM- 7 AM , which helped. If you are a super sensitive sleeper, take ear plugs, but we didn't think it was an issue.

The location of this hotel is great with it being next to the airport and only a 5 minute drive to downtown. All the conveniences you need are right around the hotel.

If we return to San Diego, we'll stay at this hotel for sure and will recommend it to everyone we know.
If you have children, stay here!

Stayed at Courtyard for 2 nights while going to San Diego Zoo. 10 minute drive to zoo. Very nice and Clean room, well maintained property with water and walking trail out back-which our balcony overlooked. One of the best courtyards we have stayed and will definitely be back! Restuarant food was very good as we were pleasently surprised-most hotel restaurants -well-just aren't that good-but Shades is well worth it. Only small drawback was you can't check out on the TV like most hotels-but only had to wait a few minutes at front desk to do so. Not sure why this modern hotel doesn't have this feature? Stay here-you'll love it!

Room Tip: High floor facing water is great and not much noise from the pool.

My husband and I spent Labor Day weekend at this hotel with our 2 girls (ages 2 and 3). At first we were looking into staying Downtown as there was an Art Fair we wanted to attend but after much consideration, we found this hotel and read the reviews and thought we'd give it a shot. It looked more kid-friendly than the hotels in Downtown San Diego. It really exceeded our expectations! Great water front location, great staff, clean rooms, nice decor, nice outdoor pool & patio area, and excellent food options in the area. There is a nice walkway and about a mile from the hotel, there is a nice park with two playgrounds (one for older kids and the other for toddlers). Also, in the Liberty Station area there is a restaurant called the Corvette Diner that we stumbled upon which is a 50's Diner where the staff dresses up and the women have beehive hairstyles and dance around. The girls loved it and so did we. The location of the hotel is convenient and close to Downtown and Coronado (which we loved). Highly recommend!!

The hotel is located in a well-maintained location close to many main highways & major streets. There are restaurants, gas stations & shopping centers nearby as well. The airport is literally a 5 min drive away. And many major attractions are within a 5-20 drive. The hotel offers free shuttle service to/from the airport, but since we decided to rent-a-car via airport we took a 5 min Enterprise Rent-a-Car complimentary shuttle from the airport to their location & drove less than 5 mins to the hotel. The transaction was fast & smooth, just like us travelers like it. We stayed in a room with a view of the water, which isn’t necessary, ‘cause who’s staying indoors in beautiful San Diego anyways. The entire hotel site is so beautiful & well keep, I’m sure you will most enjoy it by taking a nice stroll outside. Most rooms offer balconies that can seat up to 2 people comfortably. The rooms are very clean, cozy with a warm contemporary style. Back to cozy…the beds are so comfortable; which is defiantly needed after walking the beautify sites of San Diego all day. We ending up taking an early 10am flight, thankfully the hotel host allowed us to check in early free of charge. And this is extended to any guest if a room is available, if not, meanwhile they will gladly hold your bags in a safe place. I’ll end last, but not least with the breakfast buffet, since I know most of us enjoy eating a good meal. The breakfast buffet is $12.99 with refillable milk & orange juice included. The food itself is very good. I found the food to be hot, tasteful & fresh. Your desired eggs, omelets, pancakes & waffles are prepared on request right in front of you. No need to leave the hotel for breakfast - the food & setting is awesome. Hope this helps another fellow TA traveler!

My wife and I spent the Labor Day weekend at the Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Airport/Liberty Station to celebrate her birthday and we were not disappointed. We booked the 2 room suite with a king bed. According the the front desk, there are only 3 of these types of rooms in the hotel.

The hotel is very close to San Diego International Airport. The hotel provides a shuttle between the airport and hotel. While a bit disconnected from the rest of San Diego, the hotel is still conveniently located. Most major attractions are within a 20-25 minute drive.

Our initial impression of the property came during the check in process. The lobby has a sit down restaurant, bar, and "shop" with snacks and sundries. Just off of the lobby, there is also a deli.

The staff in the lobby were helpful during check in and checkout, however, when we were trying to check in at our guaranteed 4pm time, they indicated to us that their engineering team wanted to paint a portion of our ceiling and the room would not be available for another 2+ hours. After discussing it with them, I was able to convince them to move this maintenance item until after we checked out. We we got to the room, we couldn't even find the spot where they wanted to paint.

The room was in excellent shape with a fold out sofa, chair, and desk in the "living" room. The bedroom was also quite spacious and open with a king size bed and 37in (I believe) television. Both the living room and bedroom had a mini fridge. We were unfortunately booked into a handicapped accessible room, which meant a open shower. This caused most of the floor to get soaking wet as the water drained out of the center of the bathroom. Not something we are used to, but clearly understandable need.

The bed was comfortable but a bit firm for our taste. The soft pillows did make up for that, however. The bedroom had great blackout curtains, which allowed us to sleep in without having the sunshine wake us up too early.

The down side to have the large suite was the lack of view. It was placed in an area of the hotel that blocked any kind of view. This wasn't important to us as we were out of the hotel room most of our trip, but good to note.

One of the biggest selling points of this hotel was parking. Most of the downtown hotels have limited or no self parking. Those which did charge anywhere in the range of $25-$35. We were willing to drive a few extra minutes to our destinations to get the free and ample parking.

The Courtyard by Marriott at San Diego Airport/Liberty Station lived up the to the high standards that I have come to expect from from Marriott properties. I wouldn't hesitate in booking a room here again.

We stayed there in late August / early September on our last leg of our family's SoCal vacation. There are no words that I can express on how pleased we were with our stay at this property. The staff is absolutely amazing. We want to acknowledge and thank Miriam & Thomas (front desk), Hector (server), Jim (bartender), and Christian (cafe manager) for making our vacation memorable. We've decided to join the Marriott Rewards club after staying here. Here's a quick Pro/Con rundown:

Pro:
- Amazingly well maintained hotel - the entire property including the rooms were immaculately maintained and cleaned - the housekeeping staff should be commended and rewarded for such an excellent job.

- Great location - Mins to all attractions & Airport. Also walking distance to other conveniences (pharmacy, supermarket, etc.).

- Outdoor Space - pool, jacuzzi, firepit, patios, lounge areas - we spent hours relaxing here. Created the resort feel.

- Great breakfast buffet (this is an addl price, but worth it in my opinion). For Dinner, we ate at the hotel 3 times during our 5 night stay. The clam chowder, thai chicken wings, and hawaiian ribeye were faves.

- Guest Laundry - large room with 4 sets of washes & dryers - never had to wait for a free machine.

-Free Parking & WiFi!!

Cons:
- More hooks / bars to store towels in bathrooms - esp for a family of four staying in the room.

We arrived late in the evening to a very warm & friendly welcome (starting with the shuttlebus from the airport). The room was slightly larger than a normal 2 queen bed room and the Bay view (available at extra cost) well worth it. A larger balcony area would have been better but all are constrained. Hotel has a quiet period overnight which is very welcome though a little intimidating with young children! Great location for getting to city tourist sites & surprisingly little disturbance from the airport. Restaurant & cafe didn't inspire but in a good location for other out of hotel options. Will definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Bay view room well worth the extra cost.
