“Awesome hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

Beginning with Matt, our Guest Services Agent, to the pool side assistants, to the Vela Restaurant greeters and servers, everyone really met our needs for a recent staycation my wife and I needed. The corner room was very roomy and a good size for the two of us. The bay views helped relax us at night before going to bed. We normally stay here when we need to get away for the weekend, with the Gas Lamp District a short walk away. We are looking forward to our next stay!

Room Tip: Corner rooms are very roomy.

"The Hotel By The Banana Boat." Clean and restful with helpful staff. Basically a business hotel adjacent to Convention Center with a modern-sterile decor. Floor to ceiling windows offer spectacular views. We're accustomed to "larger city" hotel rooms being on the small side, and these were no exception. Rooms are somewhat snug. Our four night stay as Diamond Members afforded us free access to Spa with steam room and reading room. Complimentary breakfast was a Starbucks voucher for one beverage and one food item. Yogurt was gone by the time we arrived. Very disappointing as Diamond Members. Usually we have access to continental section of buffet. Also received coupon for nightly appetizers and soft drink. Overall, the pool did it for us. Will probably not return. My lap top would not fit in the in room safe due to a poor placement in a credenza- the door does not fully swing out. Walk to Gaslamp District. Trolley outside door. Walk to Seaport Village and the water taxi to Coronado.

The hotel is very nice and modern. We stayed during the week and there were a lot of business people staying and some functions going on. The atmosphere is good if you like classy and sort of snooty type. I wouldn't recommend this for a family or young couple if you are looking for a laid back party atmosphere. Disappointed that the WiFi was not free. The hotel is within walking distance of the Gas Lamp District and Petco Park. The Zoo is a short drive or car ride away. There are a couple of places to choose to eat and drink at the hotel. Overall no complaints but the atmosphere is not what we expected. We had a standard room and had a view of the bay.

We booked a hotel on Expedia at a 40% discount, but the name of the hotel is only revealed after booking. Unfortunately the hotel we booked was the Hilton. Yes we got the discounted rate, but on arrival we found additional charges and a substandard room: $33.00 a day for parking, a room virtually in the parking lot with minimal lighting. They then offered us upgrades at substantial price increases. Many hotels use this feature fairly, and offer the same rooms and conditions as regular customers, but Hilton is abusing the Expedia discount system to entrap customers.

Thank you for your candid feedback. I am sincerely sorry that you were unhappy with your accommodations and that you would have preferred a different guest room during your stay. I am also very sorry that our parking rates are higher than you would like liked, but our parking rates are comparable to other hotels and parking facilities in the downtown area. I thank you for taking the time to share your experience and I am sorry that it was not what you were expecting. I do hope you reconsider returning for another visit. Thank you.

This hotel was very pretty inside and it's less than a half mile from all the fun of downtown. But I think there are better deals for the money. The rooms are tiny. They give you two towels per room (inconvenient). The wedge salad in the bar was ok but for $15 I thought it would have been better. I waited in line to ask the concierge about steakhouses, then noticed a tiny sign saying they were out for the night and to see the front desk. The front desk didn't know where any restaurants that served prime rib and handed me a map with names of restaurants (with no phone numbers or addresses) Which was not very helpful. When I asked the front desk where my event was for the next morning he said "they don't tell us what rooms are assigned to what until 5am the morning of" this was a college graduation. How do you not know?! Overall not bad. But I think I will find elsewhere for our next trip.

It had been 26 years since my last visit to San Diego ! ...( I live in Northern Ireland ).... this was my 1st time staying at a Hilton Hotel .... it was just super .
Location was wonderful , at the edge of the marina and beside Petco Park and at the mouth of the Gas Lamp district , which meant that i was able to walk to most places that i wished to visit on my week long stay with my 12yr old daughter... only needed to use taxi's for Sea World & the Zoo !. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful , the hotel rooms were lovely and we had a view of the marina - which was just amazing . We ate in the Fox Grill bar on a few occasions and in the hotel restaurant too .... also the starbucks just outside the hotel door for breakfast too - all were very nice . I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking a great hotel and location for downtown San Diego visits. Wish i didnt live so far away - but hope one day to have a return visit - as i had a great time here . Thanks for making my visit so special Hilton Bayfront <3
!

Room Tip: I would recommend the marina view of the hotel - especially if your staying for a week or more .

The Hilton Bayfront is on the water -- beautiful views from rooms, restaurants, bars, and pool. The lobby and all internal spaces are comfortable and easily accessible. The gym and spa are lovely and well maintained. For a high rise hotel of over 30 floors, the elevators run magnificently! At the height of a convention of 4,000 people, we never waited more than 30 seconds for an elevator, and often much less. The only drawback to the hotel is the rooms themselves. They are clean and functional, but if you're inclined to take pictures, they will be of the lobby, the boardwalk just outside, and the view from the room not in the room. Great place for business and/or pleasure. Very child friendly, as well.
