“Where is the Health Inspector?????”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2005

One word, UNBELIEVABLE!
How is this place still in business? There is no customer service, the rooms for all of our team's parents were either wrong, or completely lost. There was a moldy burrito in the corner of the room under the moldy curtains. The bed was broke and the box springs were resting on the floor. After gladly leaving for our games, returning at 8p.m. that evening, no maid had been in the room. The wet towels were on the nasty bathroom floor which complimented the moldy shower curtain. Don't look out the unprotected window, as furniture was being thrown out from the 7th floor....again....unbelievable! What a horrible experience for our children. And, yes, the website didn't look so bad but it's obvious why there were rooms available.
Breakfast? An empty coffee pot on a double burner and a box of frozen doughnuts...on Saturday. Sunday...NOTHING! Again....unbelievable.
There are toothless employees standing around bragging that they live on the 5th floor. How proud we all should be. Again....unbelievable.
If anyone has any pull with a health inspector, CALL THEM! I tried but who knows how long it will take to get something done. We were offered free stay vouchers...did not take them. If we had, we'd found some homeless people to give them to. Not that it would have been an improvement.
Just a horrible experience. Do not stay here...drive 20 minutes to Lawrence or just sleep in your car. Its unsafe, unsanitary and just plain disgusting. Again....and this is nearly a month later....unbelievable!

This is without a doubt the most disgusting hotel I have EVER been in. I would suggest you pitch a tent in an alley somewhere, it's bound to be cleaner!
It is dark, dank & dirty. Not a single amenity nor any type of security (unless the armed guards at the correctional facility across the alley count).

They should change the name of this hotel to the Step Up Inn.....it's one step up from sleeping in your car!! The framed messages in the hotel mention how famous people such as B.B. King and Bob Dole have stayed there.......what they DON'T tell you is that the rooms haven't been cleaned or updated since!!!

In our room (712, if anyone cares) the wallpaper was peeling and bubbling, the bedspread had a large stain, the draperies had holes, the A/C barely worked (even AFTER maintenence "fixed" it), the window opened (THANK GOD, since it was HOT in there) but had no screen, the shower curtain was stained, one lamp was missing a bulb, one light in the bath didn't work, the toilet had a rust ring at water level AND ran intermittently all night because of a leak, there were holes in the wall where a blowdryer and some other mystery appliance had been ripped off the bathroom wall and not replaced, the toilet paper was just sitting there without a roller, the carpet had fuzz, dust and lint all over it, the soft chair was MISSING ONE LEG, the sofa cushions were dirty, there was only ONE small trash can in the whole room, and no ice bucket. Ours was a king room, they gave us two towels, ONE washcloth, and ONE hand towel....no bath mat, and the washcloth was so grey it looked like someone had scrubbed the floor with it (WHAT floor, I'm not sure, because it sure wasn't one in THAT room!).

As for the hotel in general....I should have known it was going to be bad when they had lost our reservation in the first place. This on a weekend when EVERYTHING else in town was booked!! Of course, now I know why they still had openings!! But, the vending machines on lobby level had a decent variety, too bad the only ice machines were on lobby level and 3rd floor. The parking lot had trash all over the place, and even at 11pm a back entrance door was propped open and anyone could have come in unobserved by the front desk staff (although the sign on the door SAID it would be locked at 9pm). My husband stayed at the room while I did some errands, when I tried to call him the woman at the front desk couldnt even manage to transfer the call correctly....instead of getting to talk to me, he heard someone saying, "It's not MY fault, I'm NOT the manager"!!

When I spoke to the gentleman at the desk when we checked out, he was friendly but unconcerned. He just said that the owner wouldn't spend any money, so they couldn't help the way things were. Not to worry, they won't get MY money again!

Recommended as the 'host hotel' for a sporting event held over the weekend. Service was slow, the rooms were bleak and worn down. Linens were stained and beds broken down. No amenities (not even an ice bucket). Requested clean sheets and had to strip and make the bed when they arrived (the linen delivery person "wasn't a maid"). We ended up buying towels and room deoderizer at Wal-Mart to make the two-night stay possible.

There are a couple of nice restaurants and a bakery within walking distance; however, the hotel is located adjacent to a county correctional facility and is not in the best part of town.
