“Unexpected gem five steps from Fanuiel Hall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

In all the times I have been to Fanuiel Hall, I never knew the Harborside Inn was just steps away on State Street. It was a pleasant surprise! The hotel is modern and offers free wi-fi. The bed was very comfortable and there were no issues with the room. There are several parking options and Fanuiel Hall/Quincy Market and the North End are right at your front door.

A friend and I just returned from an overnight stay at the Harborside Inn. As soon as we walked into the lobby, we knew we'd like this small hotel. There is a cozy area with couches and newspapers, 24 hr coffee and tea, and about 4 or 5 desktop computers for guests' use. The front desk staff was very accommodating and friendly, and we were able to check in several hours early. The Harborside is convient to the Freedom Trail, Quincy Market, etc., and numerous restaurants and cafes practically right outside your door. We had an atrium room on the 7th floor, so it was away from the street and very quiet. The bed was extremely comfortable, we had a great night's sleep, and the room was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was pretty large and was nicely updated. Wifi worked perfectly well in our room and we never lost a connection. Frankly, I'm very surprised at the negative reviews as we experienced none of those issues. Our room did not have a view, but we didn't stay here for the view; we stayed here for the convenience to everything we wanted to see, and the very reasonable price. There is no doubt that when I return to Boston, this is where I'm staying.

Room Tip: I believe the atrium rooms will be the quietest.

We had a king room atrium view on the 8th floor - more than generous space, clean and sparse in design/furnishing. The room also included one upholstered chair and a round kitchen-like table with two chairs. A large built-in desk/entertainment unit included tv and a wonderful stereo system with built-in speakers in not only the room but also the bathroom.
Being an old building you can crank the tunes without upsetting your neighbors!

The only natural light coming into the room is via the hall atrium which may make some folks feel somewhat claustrophobic (no windows). Since we didn't spend much time in the room this was not an issue.
The only real problem we had were the lack of lamps - the ceilings on this floor may be 12' high and have recessed lights (which are not bright at all), the only other lights are two very small wall-mounted on either side of the bed. Even with the ceiling and small bedside lights forget reading in the evening - bring a flashlight.
The room was clean and the bathroom had a very large shower; the sink was built into the largest counter I have ever seen in a hotel - so much space - it was wonderful.

The hotel includes coffee and tea 24/7 which is a nice touch, as well computers and free internet for guests.

The T (Blue Line - Aquarium stop) is located right outside the door; changes to other lines can be made at Government Center just two stops away.

If you're attending an event at the Garden the walk from the hotel is 15 minutes - and be sure to stop in for a drink at The Fours - great bar/restaurant along the way.

Faneuil Hall is literally a five minute walk and the Aquarium is across the street. Boston is a walking city and if you're up for it in 30 minutes you can be strolling down Newbury Street.

The Black Rose Irish Pub is across from the hotel - tourist trap but in a pinch not bad for a quick bite and a drink. There are a number of other bars close to the hotel and on a Saturday night they are packed. The good news - you will hear absolutely no noise in your room from the streets below. And lastly, avoid breakfast at the Marriott Long Wharf - two people not much to eat and no cocktails $55.

Would we stay here again - yes!

Pleasant, very nicely updated, if small, rooms and an excellent location in downtown Boston. As a business traveler, I could have used a couple extra amenities, like a fitness room (you can get discounted use of a gym nearby) and a coffee maker in the room.

The rooms were clean, modern and updated. Great location with a lot of bars and restaurants close by. Ive stayed there a few times, usually after a celtics or red sox game. You won't find better value for you're net in Boston. Can't wait until my next visit.

There could not have been a more perfect location for our needs! The T (Blue Line/Aquarium Station) elevator lets you out right outside the front door to this hotel (which was only a 15 minute trip from the airport terminal)!! It's also right across the street from the Boston Harbor/Aquarium/Columbus Park. A very pleasant walk to Hanover Street in the North End and 1/2 block from Faneuil Hall.

Our room was clean and well appointed and the hotel staff to be very friendly. Though the hotel doesn't have a restaurant (they are in the middle of construction - should be ready by March 2013), the 24 hour coffee was appreciated and was the great computer station.

The only complaint I have....our room faced out towards State Street and was right above the bar next door. We were awoken on Fri night at about 2:10 am due to the noise from the crowds leaving all the bars/pubs in the area (the Black Rose, Good Bar, Kitty O'Shea, Sissy K's, Ned Devine's, etc are all within a block).

I'd definitely stay here again. Just, next time, I'm asking for a room that doesn't face the street!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that DOESN'T face out towards State Street - especially during the weekend. The...
