“Great Family Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

Great hotel for families. Originally, booked at the Marriott Copley, having stayed there for business, but then remembered the size of the rooms and decided to switch to Custom House, as it has one bedroom suites. Soooooo glad we did --- the room was a nice size for our family of 4 and was in a great downtown location -- right near Faneuil Hall and other historical sites, the Acquarium, Wharf and a short walk to the North End. Also, very close to various metro stops, so easy to get to Back Bay, Copley Sq., Beacon Hill, Cambridge, etc. A nice touch, we weren't even aware of when we booked, was the observation deck -- it provided fantastic views of Boston. Only downside is that there is no on-site restaurant or room service, but plenty of restaurants nearby. If we go back to Boston, would definitely consider staying at Custom House again.

This is a beautiful place to stay in Boston. Right downtown, close to everything and walking distance to Freedom Trail. Close to subway, Salem Ferry and is very very close to the #1 trolley we used. The concierge Karen was wonderful, she was also a wonderful tour guide of this historic buidling. Her assistant Rodney ( I think that is his name) was good also. The evening desk gals were just wonderful, even went and got me a coffee from their break room one evening. Very clean and very professionally staffed.

Room Tip: I would stay on one of top floors for view and street noise.

We traded our Lake Tahoe Marriott timeshare via points for the Custom House. Love it as I have been trying to get in here for about 10 years. Beautiful property. ROOMS WONT BE DONE EARLY, so do not try and check in early. We took a red eye from Cali and we were red eyed after going out to a great lunch on the water. The owners lounge on 2nd floor gave us a place to kick back until our room was ready. The rooms are much smaller, but duh they are fit into a historic building not built originally as a time share. You could not ask for a more central location for pubs, restaurants, the Liberty Trail, shopping, cool alleys to explore and views views views. Did I mention you are 2 blocks from the water and the ferry to Salem? Lobster at $1.57 per pound?? All staff helpfull and we were subway experts by the end of our trip. We bought a week long subway pass and used it for Fenway Park, JFK Presidential Library, and hopping around town. Used the small kitchenette for yogurt and wine basically, some snacks. Who wants to eat in when you are in Boston?? GO DINE!!! Loved this stay and would certainly go back!!!

Room Tip: We were on 8th floor. You dont spend much time in the room so we didnt care.

We recently stayed 2 nights at the Custom House. It is in a perfect location overlooking the harbor. We are MVC owners and were given a villa on the 23rd floor............amazing views! Yes, the villa was smaller than the ones on the lower floors and yes you do have to take two elevators to get up there but it was so well worth it. There are only 2 villas on the 23rd floor so it was like we were there by ourselves. The staff was wonderful. Since we were first time visitors to Boston we purchased tickets on the hop on hop off trolley and I am glad we did. The first stop is a very short walk from the hotel and it is a great way to see the different tourist sights in the city. The hotel is very close to Faneuil Hall, North End, Harbor cruises and across the street is a subway stop that will take you to the airport in minutes. This was a pefect location for our first trip to Boston and we wished we had some more time to enjoy it.

Room Tip: The higher the better. Request a harbor view. If you don't mind a villa that is a little small...

The Marriott Custom House is such a beautiful and historic hotel! We had friends stay at 3 other hotels locally and by far, ours was the best! This location was near all the historical sights; no need to jump on a commuter rail or subway. Everything was right at our fingertips! Lovely staff! I already miss it!

This is one of Marriott's finer properties, located in downtown Boston overlooking the harbor. Quite elegant for a vacation rental, but there are two things which are bugging me as I write this. Like most vacation rentals, breakfast is not included. However you can go to the first floor dining room and sign ala carte for breakfast items. An attendant stands there with an eye toward cleaning up but also to prevent theft. Reminds me of a high school monitor and takes away from an otherwise more upscale atmosphere. They might want to switch to a per diem. Secondly, with rentals up to floor 23, powerful toilets are required, and the one on the 8th floor just interrupted my coffee for the 4th time.... You decide.

Great location overlooking harbor. Very small, but great, staff and public areas inside hotel due to small footprint of building . . . A negative if you are a people watching and hotel activity. Had a small suite, which was huge cor the price. Nice continental breakfast included.
