4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2007

We have stayed at this particular Westin previously so there were no surprises, thankfully. All our favourite features - those wonderfully comfortable beds and fresh linen, simple no-nonsense amenities and a coffee maker to hand for an early jet-lagged morning were there, together with a great view.

The lobby of this particular hotel is always bustling and it could be irritating for some to find themselves in the middle of such a crowd at all times of the day or night. Such heavy footfall is the price to be paid for staying in a shopping mall, however and for us, the advantages far outweigh the drawbacks. We were there Thanksgiving weekend, so there were few conference guests - another potential minor irritation when staying downtown Boston, we've found. However, the Westin copes well with this level of activity, lifts are efficient and seldom involve anything more than a couple of minutes wait and once up on the residential floors, it's peaceful and relaxed.

We've never eaten breakfast here, but nip downstairs and across the bridge to Au Bon Pain. Getting coffee to bring back is easy from the Starbucks across the lobby too. All in all, we find the Westin to be a great refuge from the hustle and bustle that brings us to Boston in the first place and we continue to be satisfied with our choice.

This is my fourth time staying here over the past 5 years.

Overall, I have always had a great experience here. The staff is very helpful. The Restaurant and bar in the hotel itself is very good. I had breakfast, dinner, and drinks in both and was always very satisfied with the food and service.

The Palm restaurant is a steakhouse also within the hotel complex and they have very good food and service as well.

Turner's Fisheries is also within the complex and it was just OK. My meal was cold by the time I got it but it could be that there was 20 of in a group.

The rooms in the hotel are starting to get a bit worn but are still very fresh and comfortable. Some of the hallways as well. May need a carpet replacement soon.

The Westin Reebok gym is very nice for a hotel gym. I always look for hotels with gyms and, generally, Westin hotels do a very nice job. A lot of cardio equipment such as treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals. Enough weights (free and cybex) to get in a good workout.

The floor was dirty, the rooms were small, I had to remind housekeeping to replace my coffee and tea, and all the hallways felt dirty. On the upside, there are a lot of "relax and rewind" activities in the early afternoon, the gym was large, and the front desk staff were very accommodating. My toilet was not clean when I arrived.

This place should be three stars at most.

Wireless in the rooms wasn't free. That's silly. To get free wireless you have to hang out in the completely uncomfortable and dirty-looking lobby. The lobby isn't, like, filled with dirt smears, but everything looks stained and fake. I didn't want to touch anything. It felt like a slightly plush airport.

I shouldn't have these experiences at a four-star. Four-star means luxury, not dirt and discomfort.

We got a great last minute deal on our room from hotwire. We were only staying for one night but we may as well have just pulled an all-nighter and skipped paying for the room! Upon arrival we were quickly checked into a room on the 13th floor. The room seemed clean upon first inspection however I noticed that the bed had numerous hairs on the sheets leaving me to wonder whether or not the sheets were even changed. Also, the bathroom had a terribly chipped toilet and finger nail clippings on the floor.

The view from the room was great. It was front facing the John Hancock building. That was about the only plus! The hotel was incredibly noisy and I'm not referring to the other guests! In fact, I never even heard anyone else talking in the hotel, the other guests were very quiet. However, the pipes in this place were ridiculous! They knocked all night and rattled everytime someone down the hall flushed the toilet or turned on the sink. In the morning, the housekeeper turned the vacuum on down the hall at about 7am and continued until about 11am going into various rooms. There was also an alarm going off in the hotel for a half an hour! I've never been in such a noisy hotel.

Maybe I was just there on a really bad night but it really skewed my view of the Westin!

We stayed for 3 nights for a long weekend. Managed to book a cheap rate via priceline.com for 1st night as the rest of the stay was for business.
Check in: Fine
Room: Comfortable bed & bed linen.
Bathroom: Small and compact, but not in a good way. Towels not that soft as you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. Also there were hairs in one of the towels! Not the best. Shower was nice & powerful.
Check out: Express.
Facilities: Pool is small and no real changing rooms - just a shower and restroom facility. Does have a large gym.
Location: Excellent for shops and restaurants in the Back Bay area. Good transport in the area. Great base to explore other areas of Boston.
Positive: Fantastic location
Negative: Not too sure about cleanliness of the floor. No wow factor as it was a Westin Hotel

my wife and son were not allowed to check in upon arrival because the reservation was in my name even though my wife had the same credit card that the reservation was made with. i arrived 30 minutes later and we were allowed to check in.

the junior suite was rather large with two queen beds but with a tiny closet and only 3 drawers. my wife quickly filled the 3 drawers and my son and i lived out of our suitcases for 5 days.

parking was a stunning $40 per day plus tip to the valet for each time we used our car. service is valet only. if you absolutely do not need a car, do not bring one or rent one. we needed to get to maine and to the cape so we needed a car.

there was one robe provided for 3 guests. the bathroom was very ordinary. there was no refrigerator provided nor was there a sink outside of the bathroom.

the beds were very nice. there was only one tv with limited stations. there was only one box of tissues.

one night when we returned to the hotel there was nobody at the street level to check our car. there was nobody at the front desk either and we had to go to the bar to find someone to check in our car.

we printed out boarding passes on the day we left at the business center. the cost was $5 for 15 minutes plus $1.50 for each page printed. outrageous.
.

if you have a choice, choose somewhere else..

Other hotels in Boston may be a bit more luxurious or deemed fit for a king and queen but couldn't resist giving the The Westin Copley Place five stars based on value, location and service. Price was $189 per night for a mid-week stay and while the Marriott's and others are my typical haunts, the Westin provided by far the best price and a great stay.

Took a train up from CT, got off at Back Bay and walked into the Copley Mall, took a right and walked 100 yards all inside the mall into the Westin. Early check in was no problem, the room was good size w/ a king bed, bathroom was very well updated and the room was immaculate.

TV was big, shower was oversize, towels were soft, the bed heavenly and the shampoo etc. were top notch. Elevators were fast and did not hear other noises from other guests. Could have downgraded it a bit as I was on the 12th floor and heard this very high pitched noise as if a truck was backing up... however, it lasted the entire hour I was getting ready to leave in the morning so no idea what that was.

Location is just great. There was a convention at The Hynes which is accessed entirely indoors by walking thru the Copley mall and then the Prudential mall, about a 7-8 minute walk. Ended up w/ customer one night grabbing a beer and watching the Celtics at a bar @3 blocks away call Joe's Bar and Grill was was really nice, fairly upscale and the beer was very cold. Had to grab a cab one day and they were right there. Heard the pool and workout areas are real nice but didn't have a chance to stop by.

Went past theiri restaurant bar late and it was packed at 10pm and if I had more time would have loved to stop in for a drink. Checked out and needed to leave my bag and the bellmen were busy and an employee who looked like the manager saw me standing there for just a second and he hustled over to check it in. A very nice, elegant touch for a great stay. Have to say when I stay in the Copley area again, the Westin wins out over the Sheraton and Marriott.
