“Great location, luxurious, nice views, great staff, nice bar!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

We just stayed at the Taj Boston for two nights and had a great stay. Beautiful, big room overlooking the public park. (we could see the swan pond, bridge, Washington statue, Beacon Hill, Financial District). Great location, and we walked everywhere - Newbury is around the corner, Copley Sq a 10 minute walk, Freedom Trial nearby, great restaurants, etc. Can't imagine a better location! The lobby is pretty, the bar is awesome (cozy place to get a drink before going out) and the staff is friendly. Did not eat here, but if the bar service is any indication, the food is probably good, too. The bathroom was big, marble and had a lot of extras. I agree with another poster that there could be more outlets, but we managed. The rooftop is cool - you can see the whole city. The rooms are pretty quiet, despite being right on Arlington. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Pay the bit more for the parkview rooms - they have huge bay windows and the view is amazing!

“Great location, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

We stayed at the Taj for thanksgiving (I know, a little while back) and we loved it. We has found a deal with an advertisement and got a cheap price that included a free continental breakfast and $80 dining credit.

The Taj is very classy. Being the former Ritz Carlton, it still has a lot of the decorations and features. The rooms were generously sized, bright, clean, but a little old. The bathroom was a little small but was completely marble, truly beautiful. The staff treats everyone like a king and gives you free (and delicious) chocolates within 30 mins of you arrival (a very pleasant surprise). The hotel has a nice fitness facility but does NOT have a swimming pool (too old to have one).

The dining, as to be expected from most luxury hotels was very expensive. We went for the Thanksgiving dinner which had things on the menu that I had not even heard of. The food was beautiful and tasted even better.

The hotel is right on Boston common and in the fall is probably the best place to be. You could spend a whole day in the park alone. The hotel is also located right between Back Bay and Downtown within a walking distance of most attractions.

Overall, our stay was very nice, if you find a good deal, please give this hotel a try!

Room Tip: Get a view of Boston Garden (obviously!)

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013 via mobile

Taj has a great location and ambiance. Only criticism is there need to be more electrical outlets near the bed.

There is a luxury feel to your stay. Shoeshine service is excellent. Hotel is right on Newbury street which is a great place to hang out, grab food and shop.

“Room needs a facelift”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

The Taj is in a great location, and we found the service attentive and professional. I would stay there again, but not as a first choice in Boston. The public areas of the hotel are very nice and charming in an old-school way, but the rooms are getting shabby and could use a renovation. We were there for a conference and paid a low conference rate, so I assume we were given one of the less desirable rooms. I'm not positive about this, but it looks like there are two parts to the hotel, and we were in the older part. Maybe the newer rooms are nicer. Anyway, our room looked out on the alley and adjacent building. There was a cold snap during our stay, and cold air poured into the room from the old, unglazed windows. The carpet was stained, as was the upholstered chair in the room. There was just one small, overhead light in the part of the bathroom with the shower, and it was really quite dark with the shower curtain drawn (I couldn't read the labels on my shampoo & conditioner). The bathroom (separate shower/toilet and vanity areas) was large, but most of the space is wasted and it's a far cry from the luxury space you see at most mid/high-end hotels these days. usually I love to take a bath when I'm at a hotel, but I didn't here--tub was old, shallow and just not nice.

It wasn't so bad that we were uncomfortable, and I would stay at the Taj again for its great staff and convenient location. But our room was definitely showing its age, and the decor and furnishings are crossing the line from simply being dated to worn out. Time to invest some money in this property, Taj!

Dear CDN_abroad_2010,

Thank you for leaving your review here on TripAdvisor and for staying at the Taj on your recent business trip to Boston! I am happy to hear you were pleased with our central location and professional service.

I am very disappointed to hear we were not able to exceed your expectations during your stay. For our groups, the room type provided is not dictated by the room rate, but rather the availability of the room category type on the day of check-in. I do apologize you were not satisfied with the condition of your room. We are currently working on a number of updates including new carpets in our guestrooms. I apologize you were not given a room that had received these updates yet.

Thank you again for staying at Taj Boston. We do hope you will choose to stay with us again so that we can exceed your expectations!

Kind Regards,

Taj Boston Management

“Classy Hotel ina great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

I stayed at the Taj for just one night - Friday December 7th 2012 - with my girlfriend. We chose the location as being central to the fun spots in downtown Boston, and right next to the Common if we felt like a walk. The interior is very classy, nice entry hall, corridors, stairs etc. We went up to our room on the 4th floor and had a partial view of the common and adjacent Newbury street. The room was very comfortable, reasonably-priced, and best-of-all had a large deep bath - one of my touchstones of a hotel is the bath - and this one was very enjoyable with lashings of hot water. Before going out for dinner we went down to the stylish The Bar on the ground floor, and had a very nice wodka Martini and a bowl of tasty clam/corn chowder to keep the wolves at bay. Our friends turned up and we went out to a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant in the North End. Got home late and hit the hay in the very crisp and comfortable bed - my other Hotel touchstone.
Next morning we got up at about 10am and went for a tasty breakfast in the hotel's restaurant The Cafe with a nice viewpoint looking out at Newbury street.
I found the hotel delightful, reasonably priced, wonderfully located and offering excellent service - I would not hesitate to stay there again, or recommend it to my friends and family.
