We were stayed in this hotel for a weekend in June 2013. We arrived during a torrential rain storm and were a little annoyed that only one person was admitting reserved guests.
The room was more than just a king sized bed. We had a sitting area with sofa, lounge chair, and small fridge. It was a corner room with windows on 2 walls but the views were unremarkable. The bathroom - fixtures and furnishings - looked new. The rest of the room - not so new but perfectly clean.
My one nagging complaint is that the TV remote was slow. Press the button - count to 3 - something happens. I almost broke my thumb before I figured this formula out. Turns out it had something to do with the Samsung models they furnished their rooms with. Bad decision that.
Downstairs the lobby level has a nice large bar with open seating (sofas and low tables), table seating and naturally - bar stools. This is adjacent to a restaurant (SideBar & Grille) that was open quite late (we sat down at 9:40pm). The servers were pleasant but seemed overloaded - like they were not prepared for a crowd. The carpet in the restaurant looked a little shabby and the chairs we sat in - we actually sunk into. Still it was welcome refuge from the storm. Try the clam chowder.
Since we were attending a convention in the huge centre separate from but attached to the Sheraton - we ate all other meals in town or in the restaurants and food court in the adjacent Mall(s). And we would have done that same on Sunday morning (check out day) except that - when we awoke we discovered that the power had gone out in the entire Back Bay area - the Convention was on hold and the Mall(s) was closed. We tromped down the 14 flights to the lobby to find that the hotel had arranged a "food line" offering their inconvenienced guests complimentary bottles of water, cookies, fruit, coffee, tea, & juice. We sat at the bar to munch and listen for some news. The blackout had been caused by a lightning strike blasting a power station nearby. Around 10:45 the power was back and by 10:55 the complimentary provisions were gone. We were not offered a late check out or any other consideration. (We should have taken some extra cookies.) You decide for yourself whether the Sheraton was "caring" and generous enough with us. Because of the convention the hotel was fully booked so I'm sure there were some folks irked enough to ruffle the management for a discount. We weren't in that line.
