“4 star lobby aesthetics . . . with amateurish 2 star service and blah rooms”

Stunning lobby with excellent concierge service. Room is breathtakingly plain and uninteresting and small. Series of poor service experiences that soured my experience, as well: my shoes were hung out but unshined; checked that I needed a rollaway on my check-in, but room did not accommodate one; front desk staff seemed very young, disconnected and uninterested.

We arrived mid-morning after a 7 day cruise with no agenda, and decided to bid on a last-minute hotel. We were not disappointed in the price we got for the Liberty. Enjoyed the story of the property and it's historic significance. Was very convenient to T-stop and walkable to so many (more reasonable) restaurants. Our room also faced the entrance to Mass Eye and Ear Hospital, but we heard NO noise at night...honestly. The room was large and the bathroom was very large for a hotel, with separate tub and shower. I thought the decor and amenities were fine. I don't know if I would pay 5 star prices for this hotel, but it certainly served our overnight purpose for our flight home the next day and the price was right.

The Liberty Hotel was a real treat. The rooms were terrific as was the restaurant. And, the architecture and the story of the place is so wonderfully unusual. So different than your run of the mill chain hotel. Loved it.

I'm on day one of a 6 night stay and am thoroughly disappointed and underwhelmed. The Libertty is billed as a five star luxury collection hotel but that it is not. Our room smells of damp, has a stained carpet and has a view over the entrance to the mass eye and ear hospital so we can hear the unloading bay and see directly into the hospital. I wouldn't stay here again in a million years. My last hotel stay was at a Fairmont hotel last month and it was 5 star and spectacular. This is 3 star at best. Very fancy public areas - bar, reception, etc., but the room is distinctly average. Would not recommend.

Room Tip: Don't stay here unless you enjoy noise and damp smells.

By Boston standards rooms were a generous size, bathroom very modern and spacious with a soaker tub and separate shower, perfect location adjacent to MGH, easy walking to parks, shopping, Freedom Trail. Our room was very quiet, especially considering the location next to hospitals and highways. Downstairs in the lobby/bar/restaurants it was quite noisy. Many restaurants within a few blocks, nice Whole Foods two blocks away, T stop across the street so easy to take the train from the airport to the hotel. The free wifi was inadequate at night, hotel charged $20 per day to upgrade to faster speeds, during the day the free wifi was fine. Breakfast was not included but many inexpensive options outside of the hotel within a few blocks.

Room Tip: Our room was facing the back, overlooked Mass Eye and Ear and the Charles river, 8th floor, nice and...

Great hotel to stay for a special occasion or event! Check in was seamless, room was ready and clean. We stayed in one of the old jail rooms, and it was very neat how The Liberty mixed old with new!

Can be a little loud with the rotunda night scene, but that's the point so know what you're in for before staying here. It's a fun, hip but classy hotel with great amenities.

Our only real complaint is the in room minibar is JAMMED full. I always have to unpack and repack it when I stay here. The food is very good at hotel, but also close to great bars and restaurants, we like to store some desserts, leftovers, beverages and it's a pain at times to make it all fit. This room in particular also had extremely high water pressure in the shower. Luke being stung by bees, and not enjoyable.

A great stay overall as usual, you can expect to be pleased when staying here!

Stayed a week at The Liberty in May 2015. The location is great if you want to stay close to Charles river. Walking distance to MIT, Beacon hill (i.e Charles street), Public gardens and Newbury street (for shopping). Easy access to running/walking trail by Charles River.
