What a great place. An old jail that has been converted to a hotel. There is still a lot of the historyhere and very unique. The staff was professional and they passed out champagne at the check in. We went out for dinner and when we came back it was as if the lounge area had transformed into a night club. Be sure to read up on the dress codes if you plan to visit the bar or restaurant.

Let me start with my fiancee and I love traveling to hotels in the Boston area and we were very excited to stay at the Liberty because of the history and beauty of it but that's where the dream died. First, my fiancee called ahead to tell the Liberty that we needed a king bed and we were checking in around 1 AM. She was given assurances that everything would be ready. next came to us arriving to the Liberty. We couldn't even pull in to valet parking because people visiting the restaurants, Clink and Alibi, took up the entire outside by either standing there or leaving there cars. When we finally pulled up, the valet had 4 guys standing there doing nothing but talking to each other. None of them came up to us to check our car. Luckily the security guard noticed us standing there and wrote the valet ticket himself. I could hear him as we walked in ask the guys why they weren't doing anything and they gave no answer.

Next came our checking in. The receptionist started by saying you are all set for two full beds (when earlier that day my fiancee had made sure we would have a king bed available) and the receptionist was clueless to that fact. After having a little bit of a discussion, she was able to get us a king bed.

The middle. We tried to eat at the Clink for Saturday brunch. Good luck to you (it seems the Liberty is more interested in trying to serve people that flaunt their wealth than the people that actually act normal and tip a great deal for service and hard work). We could literally see a couple of tables for 2 open but were told it would be a 30 minute wait. So instead, we ate at the bar in front of Clink, and the bartender there was AWESOME, hard working, very personal, and a friendly guy who cared.

The end: we went to check out and before we left the Liberty wanted to walk around without our bags. The reception desk had no problem holdings on to the bags (HUGE MISTAKE). I went back to the reception desk and was informed that our bags were down stairs (never informed this would happen). Went down there and the desk was unmanned. However, we did find another group of people down there that had been charged twice for valet parking and said they were never coming back based on service. We stood by for 10 minutes and still no one came there to help. My fiancee went back up to the desk and was informed that all staff was concentrating on "checking in guests." We waited another 10 minutes and now there was a line of people trying to get service at the desk down stairs. The group trying to get their valet parking felt so bad for us they started to complain to the Manger of the valet parking about service and he just went into his office instead of dealing with them. My fiancee went back up stairs and finally an attendant came down to give us our bags. Then we couldn't find parking attendants to give us the keys to our car that was right in front of the hotel. We waited several minutes when we eventually went over to the valet desk and just took them off the table. Eventually after we announced we were taking our keys and had our ticket for the keys someone came over and said it was alright.

Ending: This is Boston, you can stay at a lot better hotels for less money and 10 times better service. We travel to Boston a lot and we would have loved to stay here again but with service like that, there is no way you can justify staying there.

Pros: The room was nice, bartender was awesome.

Thanks so much for this review and for your compliments to our bartender and on our guest room product. I am however sorry to hear that service you experienced in other areas of the hotel was lacking. It is our objective to acknowledge each guest upon arrival and I apologize that we did not deliver our exceptional service to you. I also apologize that you had to reiterate your request for a king bed, but am happy to hear that you were accommodated. We do take reservations for brunch which is something we would highly recommend next time if you decide to return, and we will definitely review our luggage storage procedures to see how we can improve them. This feedback is wonderful and helpful, thanks again for taking the time to share.

Kind regards,

We stayed at the Liberty for one night on Starwood Points. The lobby was stunning, check-in easy (a complimentary glass of sparkling wine!), and the room very nice. Our view was of the cupola, which is lovely at night, and the city skyline in the background.

Our room had a king bed, and large bath. The room itself is pretty but not especially exciting. It is probably in need of a cosmetic update. The amenities, though, are well-thought out and plentiful. The room has lots of glassware, high-end bath products, plenty of towels, and robes and slippers. They provide bottled water, and there is a large minibar (priced as minibars often are!). The bed is comfortable with crisp, clean linens.

The location is great for Beacon Hill, the Common, and Boston Garden. It is walkable to the North End, though we took a cab because it was a little chilly ($7).

We didn't eat dinner in any of the hotel's restaurants, though all were busy and the menus look good. The lobby takes on a night-club like atmosphere after dinner, with lots of well-dressed young people milling around and loud music. This shouldn't impact sleeping, since the rooms seem well isolated from the lobby. We enjoyed checking out the scene and then going upstairs to peace and quiet!

In the morning, coffee is served in the lobby. If I had to find fault with the hotel, it would be the lack of coffee in the rooms. This is quite a minor issue, since it is a quick elevator trip to get a cup of coffee in the morning.

We had brunch at Clink. It was delicious, if not especially exciting. They do have a Bloody Mary Bar with about 20 items to choose from to make your own, which looked fun.

I enjoyed seeing the pictures of the old jail. The restoration here really is remarkable, and if you are a history buff, you'll enjoy it for that reason alone.

I would definitely return to the Liberty. It gives the W a run for its money in Boston, and I'd probably choose based on location...otherwise it is too difficult to pick!

A side note --- the hotel is apparently dog friendly, so lots of people with dogs around.

I doubt I would stay here with kids, but I loved it for an adult getaway.

Room Tip: Higher floor overlooking the cupola had a great view.

The Liberty is a great hotel. Luxurious rooms, excellent decor, great ambience. The rooms have mini-bars, which I feel most don't anymore, yet was a nice addition. The beds, bathrooms, and everything else is of top quality. The T stop (subway station) being directly across the street makes it incredibly convenient from a commuting standpoint. The only complaint I have is that this hotel tends to host too many events. Most nights when I return from work there is an event in the "lobby" area, taking up all the space, packing the bar and surrounding social areas. It would be nice if one or two nights a week they'd keep it free of events, to ease the traffic so the hotel guests can have a (semi) quiet drink at the bar.

my wife and i stayed here for her birthday and were greatly impressed with the service and people who work here. We were greated at the front desk with a complimentary glass of champange and then when we got to our room on the 14th floor the veiw was breathtaking ,looking out over the charles river and the boston skyline . Our first night we just enjoyed the cozines of the catwalk , the second night we had reserved an area in the lobby for a gathering of friends to celebrate my wifes birthday and we were greated by our server ashley who was fantastic and very helpfull throughout the evening , she also had the wifes cake unboxed and brought out with candles then returned to kitchen to have it plated . At the end of the evening ashley placed the remaining cake back in its box and held it for us upon our departure the next morning . After checking out and returning home we opened the cake box to find a very nice message stating thank you for coming to the hotel and she wished my wife a very happy birthday written on the inside of the box it was a very nice surprise . I would absolutely recomend this hotel to anyone coming to boston.

Room Tip: high floors have great views

We had to go to Mass General Hospital and live far enough away to have to spend the night. The hospital recommended this hotel as being next door, it was. We dropped the car off and checked into the hotel. Everyone was very helpful and welcoming. The room was great with a bath , shower and a view of the city. The staff were terrific from dropping off the car to leaving the next day and all in between

Unfortunately this is not a 4 star hotel. The lobby is beautiful and restaurants too. The food is good and the prices are at the four star level. However the room we got was far below the rating. The carpet was stained. The area behind the desk (I dropped something and had to look under and behind the desk) had not been vacuumed in ages. There was only one robe in the closet. The bathroom magnifying mirror was broken and dangerous (it kept blowing the fuse when I tried to put on the light) and the tub faucet was broken too. The heating system was very loud. The staff was kinda friendly - but not all the way. The receptionist was skeptical when we told her - upon the checkout - that the robe was missing :).
Well, on the brighter side - there was an improvement regarding coffee situation. When we stayed here about 6 years ago, the only coffee you could get in the morning was the one in Clink (you could also order coffee to your room but it was about $15 a cup with delivery and gratitude), but we did not have reservation for breakfast, so we did not not get in. When we asked at the front desk where a guest could get a morning coffee in famous Liberty Hotel - they sent us to Dunkin Donuts across the street :)). This time there was coffee bar at the lobby from very early morning.
In summary - if you like late night parties in the interesting environment and location - this hotel is for you. If you are looking for a true Four Star Hotel experience - this is not the place.
