“Unique Hotel, Memorable Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

I had a fantastic stay at the Liberty Hotel this week. As many others have mentioned, the history/decor of this former prison is truly unique. Prices at Clink/Alibi are a bit excessive, but the atmosphere is worth the trip. What really makes the Liberty stand out though is the small touches (e.g. glass of champagne at check-in) and friendly, helpful staff. Would absolutely recommend for your next stay in Boston.

An upscale hotel in a great location ("T" stop right next door), clean and nice rooms, with an interesting history. Just so you know, there's no breakfast included, but there's everything else you need from umbrellas to irons to coffee to nice shampoo and showers. The architecture is stunning!

We had our annual holiday party here Dec 2012. Each year we choose a different location that is unique to Boston, so we thought the Liberty was a great option! The atmosphere here is lively and exciting--it was also nice that after our event was over, people could go to the bars still open at the hotel. We rented out a rotunda and had a buffet style dinner--the food was very good. My only recommendation is if you have a smaller party, set the tables up so you're not seating people on all four sides, but keeping everyone as close as possible. Otherwise, you can feel spread out and disconnected. The staff here is extremely accommodating and attentive. They always respond quickly to emails/phone calls and met with us a couple times before the event. They also had someone on site to help with anything. Overall, we had a very good experience and would highly recommend this location.

So yes, you will stay in a spot that was once an old jail. And yes, this property has made use of that basic structure to produce a really interesting lobby and room lay out. Lots to look at when waiting for friends. The rooms are large and with upscale amenities. The Wifi actually works. The bar area rocks along with the young and older alike but you can not hear this from the rooms. The staff is helpful from start to exit. One suggestion. This hotel is next door to Mass General Hospital and the room that I stayed in looked at the entrance of Mass Eye emergency room. I would avoid rooms that face in that direction on the main floor as people use the ER entrance to wait. So they can see you just as easily as you can see them and you will have to close the curtain for privacy. Wonder if the hotel could put some other window shades int hat would block people from looking in but let some light in. Other than that this is a great hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing Mass Eye Hospital Emergency room

Stayed here in Feb 2013 and I thought the place rocked! At night the bars really light up with Fashion shows etc. The whole hotel is themed on the old Prison it resides in, from 'The Clink' for breakfast to 'The yard' outside.

Great atmoshere in the Lobby.

Great Rooms and the Service was excellent - Breakfast was good quality and price

Would definitely stay again.

Wonderful hotel in the center of Boston. We arrived 7 hours before check-in, and they gave us our room at no extra charge. Every guest is entitled to a glass of champagne at check-in, so they gave it to us that evening. The rooms are bright and clean, and the bed and shower were very comfortable. The staff was wonderful, and the restaurant is pricey but good. There is also quite a scene in the lobby bar every night, so very convenient for a fun night without having to venture too far away.

I have stayed at the Liberty Hotel perhaps 20 times on business over the past several years. I am in Boston frequently on business and it is the best business Hotel I have stayed in. Much of my business is in Cambridge and it is a short trip across the Longfellow Bridge into Cambridge. Of course there are hotels in Cambridge but I think this one is better. It is certainly closer to Cambridge then some of the downtown Boston hotels.

What I like about it:
There is a good strong Wi-Fi signal in both the rooms and public spaces of the hotels.
The lobby is large and yet has a number of small "nooks" where you can conduct a private meeting with someone and not be eavesdropped on
There are two good restaurants both conducive to holding business meetings
It is not far from the airport or from South Station – 10-15 min by taxi
The staff at the front desk are very friendly. Now, many of them remember me and greet me by name. But even before they knew me, they were just as friendly. They go out of their way to make sure that you feel very welcome and at home
The rooms are large, clean, and have good toiletries

All in all, it is my favorite hotel in Boston

Wow, what a fantastic review – thank you so much! We pride ourselves on being the top business hotel in Boston and are pleased to hear that you agree. Our location makes for seamless access to both Cambridge and downtown Boston, and our lobby is most definitely a great spot for impromptu meetings or just taking time to get some work done on your laptop. Please contact me at brian.lodermeier@libertyhotel.com and it would be my pleasure to personally assist you with your next hotel reservation.

Best regards,
Brian
