Breathtaking scenery on the way out! The tour guide was very knowledgeable; she came around to talk to each and every one of us on the way back to port. We saw several whales and got lots of great pictures. My sister even got a great video of 3 whales traveling together. Absolutely loved my experience; and the next time I come to Boston, I will definitely do another tour!

“Fast Catamaran ride!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

The catamaran ride was very fast our to Stellwagon Bank Marine Sanctuary. There was nothing to observe once we left the Boston shoreline behind as the catamaran was going so fast. It took at least an hour to get to the Stellwagon Sanctuary and we did follow 2 humpback whale here, Echo and Nile. We saw them dive 4 different times. There were a couple other whales in the distance that were being watched by another boat. Our naturalist told be that if they see North Atlantic right whales in the area they leave that spot because they are so endangered. Occasionally they see fin whales. They had an interesting newspaper type handout regarding Stellwagon Marine Sanctuary in a hanging file by the snack bar. I picked one up after we finished the whale watching and were heading back on the hour ride. It was very cold in November, we wore winter coats, scarfs, hats, gloves. Be sure to dress for the weather. I have done whale watching many places, this was a long ride out before you saw anything, and due to the speed of the boat there was nothing to see. In Alaska, you see whales very quickly, and other wildlife too. Much shorter rides. California also. I will say we stood on the upper deck by the naturalist. You could also stand on the first level in the very front of either catamaran hull. There was a second level also. We did get very close to the whales, and the observation was easy. This time of year it was only at between 1/3 and 1/2 capacity full. I'm not sure it would be as pleasant if it was full and there was little seating available on the long ride. There is indoor seating on the first and second level. There are 3 restrooms, and a snack bar.

“A Whale of a Good Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

I am sure the reviews correlate to how many whales you see. We saw so many I was sure they were mechanical. The boat is a bit crowded and could have more seating but the main attraction is outside. Paired with entry to the aquarium it is a reasonable value compared to other boat rides. It was a cold and misty day and we still loved it. Never thought I would see this many whales. Small snack bar. Restrooms. Well-run.

Having previously watched sperm whales in New Zealand and been underwhelmed we didn't get our hopes up too much for this trip, but we were pleasantly surprised.

The boat was well equipped with restrooms and snack bar, and seats were comfortable. Had a good blast out for an hour or so before getting into whale territory during which time the crew and naturalist on board gave us regular information about what we were seeing and could expect to see.

We were lucky to find two pairs of humpbacks who considerately were surfacing and diving either side of the boat so everyone got a good view. At one point they were about 10 feet from the boat - close enough to smell their breath.

Would certainly recommend as it was reasonably priced and a great day out.

Top tips - sit on the second level at the back. You're not going to see anything for the first hour or so and you'll be sheltered from the worst of the wind, but still have great views. Take warm clothes, as you do go far out but also take sunblock on a good day. Be prepared for a bit of chop - we were on a catamaran going at a reasonable lick on the open ocean, which was great fun for us. Those people not coping so well were looked after by the crew and offered ginger ale and a barf bag. Be patient, as the captain does turn the boat to make sure everyone gets a look. Leave plenty of time, as they do run over (our trip was closer to 4.5 hours, but we had engine trouble on the way back.)

“saw fin whale and humpbacks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This was a great whale watching tour. It was 4 hours and the staff was very entertaining and did lots of educational pieces. We saw a gigantic fin whale and two humpback whales as well as some dolphins. There are restrooms and snacks available. There is sheltered indoor seating as well as lots of space on 3 levels outside for viewing the whales. One of the best whale watching tours I have been on. Because it is done by the aquarium staff the educational piece is excellent They are following the whales and even knew the names of the two humpbacks and told us some of the whale's personal histories. Great fun.
