“Great venue!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

What is there to say? A fantastic, intimate venue for seeing live performances in Boston. Easy to get to, relatively clean, beautiful interior. Just great!

“Intimate theater with good acoustics and cramped aging seating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

This is a vintage theater with all of the trappings of yesteryear. Well done reliefs on the ceiling, roman columns and classic amphitheater design make this venue a visually and auditory pleasure.

The two biggest drawbacks are the tightness of the seating and the lack of infrastructure supporting facilities.

The seats are very cramped, worn, and uncomfortable. Their size and the aisle size date back to the days when big people were 5 foot 8 and weighed 170 lbs. These seats are about as comfortable as the old Boston Garden seats. Ouch.

Their are only to bathrooms and very little vendor space in this theater. During breaks the lines for the bathrooms are impossibly long. These lines stretch back into the vendor space which makes getting to them barely possible. Making this worse is the fact that they setup additional vendor space on folding tables which restricts the limited hallway space even more.

I love the acoustics of this place, but if there is a venue (and there are several) which provides comfort and acoustics I'd go there for a show in a heartbeat over this one.

“Awesome Acoustics”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is a beautiful theater, so don't let the approach from the alley way deceive you! Upon entering the theater, look around at the details on the ceiling and walls. With regard to seating location, we had assigned seats, but explored the theater for future reference and couldn't find a bad view. With regard to comfort, you had better secure yourself a location that has plenty of leg room, as the seats are VERY close together (side to side and width to the row in front of you) which, left 3 of us feeling cramped and uncomfortable for the show. It would also be nice to see the seats refurbished, as they are worn, old and torn. The show sold out, so the theater isn't doing too badly in that regard for this particular event. We also experienced a very friendly staff, which is always nice.

“Lovely architecture”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013 via mobile

I attended a concert here recently and was impressed by the Theater's ornate design and stately interiors. Definitely worth coming a few minutes early to just gaze around at the ceilings and cornices.

Conveniently located just a couple of blocks from the State House and Boston Common, as well as from Park Street station on the red and Green lines. Lots of dining options nearby (and an Italian restaurant just next door).

“Great show, old but 'charming' look to venue, terrible ushers...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Seating wise, there really is not a bad seat in the house. I sat in the lower level, 2nd to last row, and had a great view of the stage. I assume the upper level has the same but did not look. Now for the actual seating itself...the theater is old and cramped. The seats really need to be replaced. They are dirty and falling apart, not entirely comfortable, and you are extremely close to your neighbor. Bathrooms could use a little housekeeping attention but weren't too bad. The ushers...oh they were awful. Yelling at people, being rude and sassing people, blinding people with their insanely bright LED flashlights. Our usher literally looked like he was taken from his pan-handling position on the nearest corner and brought in at the last minute. I don't know if the venue hires these people or if the performing act has any say in it but they definitely put a damper on the experience for us.
