“David 8 Bob 3”

Sibling Rivalry came much recommended and seems to copy something similar created by chef twins in the UK. Unlike the UK version, the chefs in question - David and Bob Kincaid - are longer in the tooth and not equally au fait with the cutting edge of culinary fashion. On the basis of their showing today, Bob's approach is firmly in the tradition of Americain comfort food (think plates of fried squid, roast salmon, succotash, corn cakes, etc) whereas David casts his web wider with better presentation and subtler flavours. Of course, all this is done with the chefs existing in a virtual sense, as neither David nor Bob are actually there on a regular basis. Overall, a good idea but ultimately a bit disappointing.

This is a "hip" restaurant in Boston's Tremont area so be prepared for: crowded martini bar (holding tank); line-ups, and delays in getting to your table on time. That said, it's rare that a restaurant lives up to the hype and especially, as in this case, that the end product surpasses the buzz. The gimmick of this restaurant is that the two chefs (brothers) prepare a regularly changing selection of menu items with a common ingredient (akin to Iron Chef). The menu lists the common ingredient in the center column and has each brother's offering described to the left and right. The 'duelling' food items are (somewhat annoyingly) inconsistently mains or appetizers. We were in a party of five and two thought this was fine/easy to navigate, while three of us found it mildly annoying. Recommend you read the menu top to bottom, noting items of interest along the way and then making your selection(s). To the fun part; we ordered a wide variety of items of both types augmented by several selections from the excellent wine list. Without exception, each of the items was fantastic. Items I tried included a combination of two pates, a superb salad, as well as a crispy duck main course that was huge in size, flavour and tenderness. Desserts were perfect. Service was professional, attentive and friendly. If you enjoy fine food and wine and are not reluctant to pay for it, book early and go hungry.

“Very good...not greatness”

Four of us went to Sibling Rivalry last Saturday. Much has been made of the "concept" but that did not play into our choice. We went because of the good reviews. I had to say that the food was very good, but not excellent. None of the plates were showstoppers, but all were competently composed and presented. My rib eye was a little fattier than what I'd get at the grocery store but still tasty. The salads were nice. Service was acceptable but a little impersonal and not what I'd call warm.

Would I go back? Sure, probably. But I wouldn't rush back.

This was a fantastic dining experience. If you have a special occasion, let them know and you will be surprised. i booked on opentable.com and put in the comments, it was our anniversary and they added some touches that were fantastic. I had the veal with mushrooms and artichokes, and the sauce was incredible. Husband had the salmon that was just as innovative, but he wished he had ordered mine. Wine was a bit pricey, but there is something for everybody. Just a wonderful place.

Exceptional food, Innovative menu idea, Great service. Overall, fantastic dinner on our first trip to Boston but I would agree the wine was a tad on the pricey side.
