“Excellent Italian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

In a neighborhood with countless Italian restaurants, this is the place to go. The food was as promised, simply the best Italian. I was hesitant to go here based on the past reviews regarding the service. The restaurant must be paying attention. Our server was very attentive. No server appeared rude. Overall, a great dining experience and a must for any person visiting North End.

“Just off the beaten path but worth finding!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

This restaurant has some incredible food in Boston's North End. It is a block over from Hanover St so there aren't a lot of people walking in this area. The appetizers are made with TLC, my favorites are the g and prosciutto, the carpaccio, and tomatoes. I had the rabbit and pasta dish which was even better than I expected. The restaurant itself is in an old home and the space is tight. We ate on the second floor dining room which requires climbing some steep steps. The service was just ok this evening. In all fairness my guests were a little late and that may have had something to do with it. My wife and I love this place and I will always say yes to this restaurant! Enjoy!

“Excellent Italian Food- Home Styled and Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Had a business dinner there with a bunch of friend. There was a special menu for the event, including home made pastas (such as one filled with lamb meat!!) and other items. The appetizers were great. I ordered duck and that was very well prepared and flavorful. There were a selection of desserts at the end, all of which were great. Northern Italian cuisine is not my favorite cuisine but the taste here (home-cooked flavor), ambiance and excellent service made it a very special event. If you love Northern Italian food, this is the place to go. Since I did not pay for my food, I can't help you with costs.

“Great service and Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We had a very nice dinner with 2 of the 3 entree's rated as excellent. I had the Osso Buco and my granddaughter had the Beef Tenderloin. She is eleven years old and they were very accommodating to her by serving a simple pasta on the side instead of the normal sides. My wife ordered the Veal Porterhouse, which was somewhat overcooked and on the tough side.
If you enjoy wine they have a tremendous wine list. You also need to be prepared to spend for that wine as everything they carry is top end.
The service was outstanding and we had a very enjoyable evening.

“Avoid the bar”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

Went to Mamma Maria based on Trip Advisor reviews. If traveling on business and eating solo, there are other places that would be better. Normally on business travel I eat at the bar. The bar at Mamma Maria was pathetically dead at 6pm, the only conversation was between the wait staff about weekend plans and the drink that had been returned by a diner because it had a fly in it. Had a glass of prosecco and left in search of a better spot. The food is probably as wonderful as other reviewers mention, but better in groups and in the dining room.
