“Good FOOD”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Lobster rolls, clam chowder, oysters, and the fastest and friendliest service ever. Everything was served with a smile and authentic Boston accent. We sat at the bar, no need to wait for a table. Knowledgable about all the local sites and willing to share information as your drinks are refilled, right on time - before you finish your current glass. Eat, drink and make merry in this place with historic charm. I hope to visit again on my next trip to Boston. Can't get more local than this.

“Great service, OK food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

We had an excellent server. Clam chowder was OK. Cornbread was good. Lobster casserole was good. Fisherman's platter was OK. Good fish and scallops. Just OK calamari shrimp and clams. Poor onion rings and fries. Broiled fish may be a better choice. Lots of history...if I were a tourist, I would go and soak it in.

“Sit at the bar, order the chowder, beer and corn bread”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Great clam chowder, great Sam Adams beer on tap brewed just for the Union Oyster House and great time sitting at the bar. I am a tourist but enjoyed my beer, oysters and chowder along with the entertaining conversation from the bar tender.
Was not doing the Freedom Trail but the food and beer trail. ;-)

“A fun taste of history, by the half-dozen.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

After doing the Sam Adams tour, it turns out they make a custom brew just for the Union Oyster House. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, which was perfect timing for a few open bar seats. We did a dozen local oysters with some chowder to follow. Was it the best of the best? No, but it was pretty good. If you're in the neighborhood its worth a stop.

Our Boston daughter along with two grandchildren had lunch right next to the kitchen. Two employee, one off work and one on job were holding the door to the kitchen open just talking almost the whole time while we were eating. We have been here before but not with this unprofessional experience with the American's Oldest Restaurant.
About the food, it was very good if only I could relax without the talker by the kitchen door.
