I shop here regularly for my Italian groceries. The meats and cheeses are good, and there is a wide selection of other imported products. Behind the counter is a rotating cast of Italian character actors and behind the register, occasionally, a beautiful young woman. The guys make jokes in Italian and English and sometimes you get a little lesson in gastronomy or Italian culture. At lunch time there is often a small line for sandwiches made before your eyes with care and a seasoning of wit. It is the best in the North End, a haven for golosi, gourmands, from Boston and points north. Their prosciutto may not be as good as Formaggio's but their prices are OK, and you walk out with a bag of real food and a slice of life. They always raise my spirits.
