“Location, location, location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Just like when you are buying real estate, the place you choose to stay is often about location. While it may not look like it's in a good spot from the front of the hotel, there's a lot around the hotel, and it's not far from a T stop that will take you anywhere in Boston.

The service is great here and you will want to take advantage of the valet parking. Just keep in mind that the 15 minute wait for getting your car is consistent because they park your car off-site and there's simply no way to get it to you faster than that.

This is also a hotel that lets you bring your dog with you. They very cutely have some treats at the front desk with water bowls for your canine friends. While I do not have a dog, I think it's great that they let you bring yours with you. Like smoking rooms, there are dog rooms and non-dog rooms so if you're allergic, don't worry.

Within walking distance from the Onyx are The Garden and Boston's historic North End which is chock full of of Italian restaurants. Also about a block away is Canal St. with a row of terrific pubs that include The Grand Canal and Boston Beer Works. Porters is another great watering hole and it's literally right next door to the Onyx.

The lobby lounge is a comfortable place with low lighting to set the mood for casual conversation and drinks.

The rooms are a little on the small side but international travelers, especially from Europe, aren't likely to be disappointed in their size. When my wife got me a room on New Years Eve here for my birthday last year, they kindly set out chocolates and wine for me upon arrival. My wife did not request them, she just told them that the stay was for my birthday and they did the rest on their own. That's fantastic customer service.

If you're looking for a place to stay for a weekend overnighter in Boston, or you're visiting the city for a while, check out the Onyx. It's really in a great spot and has top notch service.

Room Tip: If you're staying on the 4th of July or New Years Eve, request a high room facing the bay. You...

We first stayed at the Onyx 3 years ago for a Bruins game. We loved the location, you walk to the end of Portland Street and there's the TD Garden. Since that first trip we have stayed there for many Bruins,Celtic and Red Sox games. During the summer we have stayed in Boston to go sight seeing and I couldn't even imagine staying anywhere else.

The rooms are clean, the beds are so comfortable, the staff, well their just amazing! Everyone there is so friendly and helpful. If you need something they will go out of their way to find it for you.
I stayed there for my 50th Birthday, I was upgraded to a penthouse room. There was champagne, cupcakes and a card with messages inside signed by everyone. They make you feel like part of the family as soon as you walk in.

When you stay at the Onyx make sure you check out the Ruby room for a drink or a bite to eat. Nate and Joe will make you feel right at home.

When I am in Boston for a sporting event or just getting away for the weekend the Onyx is my home away from home!

Amazing location for any TD Garden event! Also, short proximity to Beacon Hill, North End & a quick walk to Fanuiel Hall.We ate at the hotel bar after the game and the food was great! We had 2 versions of sliders at 11pm and had low expectations! But they out did themselves. The staff at Onyx was as always, spectacular!Kimpton hotels never disappoint!

You had the sliders, my favorites! All the Ruby Room food is awesome, but the sliders hit the spot, especially after going to a game at the Garden. Thanks for the shout out to the "spectacular" staff!

There are definitely better places to stay in Boston, in fact, Nine Zero, Onyx's sister hotel is a better choice. But attneidng an event at the TD Garden a half block away, made this a better choice for this visit. The lobby is small, but the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very small as well. With two beds in the room, you had a little space on the far side, about the same in between and maybe double that to the bathroom and closest wall. But the bed was comfortable, the minibar stocked, the bathroom clean (although out of body wash). The hallways look like they are just about coming due for a remodel, but besides that, everything else was fine.

We have begun talks about a potential room & hallway refresh later in the year, so thank you for that feedback. Next time you are coming to event at the Garden, make sure you stay with us! At least when you don't, you are staying with a sister property in Boston!

Stayed here this past Thursday for the Celtics/Lakers game. Location could not have been better...2 minute walk to TD Garden! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our original plans had us staying for the weekend, but due to Nemo (blizzard) we decided to stay only one night and leave before the storm. They only charged us for the one night without any cancellation fees. The room itself was nice and clean. The only complaint would be the lack of a coffee maker in the room. That being said, I would definately stay here again. One of the better hotels in Boston for the money!

Don't even get me started on Nemo...crazy blizzard right? Glad you got to see the Celtics/Lakers and then got out of dodge before the storm hit! Glad you had a great time...and just to let you know, we do have coffee makers available. We have the cool one cup machines that are available upon request, let us know it advance and we will have it in your room waiting for you!

We stayed ay the Onyx because we were in town to see the Celtics. The hotel is right down the street, an easy walk to the TD Garden. We found the staff friendly and very helpful. They provided us with maps and made some recommendations for places we could go to dinner. The hotel was clean and our room was perfect. We even had a surprise in our room when we arrived, a bottle of wine and some chocolates! Probably our favorite thing about this hotel is the location. We walked to everything we did. Faneuil Hall, Freedom Trail, North End, etc.. were all just a short walk away.
The next time we're in Boston, we will be staying at the Onyx.

My husband and I recently visited the Onyx Hotel for his birthday. We were going to a Celtics game at the TD Garden which was litterally steps away from the hotel. Our trip was fantastic!! First, to start with the remarkable staff and ambience of the hotel was a way to kick off his birthday. The staff were very attentative and pleasant. The hotel very small, but cozy and cute. Being a Kimpton rewards card member allowed us to be treated even more special, awaiting in our room was a nice birthday treat for the hubby with a signed card from all the staff members. The room was extremely clean and small, but enough room just for the two of us. I had no complaints whatsoever!! To top everything off, the wine reception was really an added touch to our stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Me and the hubby will definitely be staying at the Onyx during our next visit to Boston.
