“Centrally located, only a little creepy.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Stayed two nights. Best thing about the hotel is its location -- right near Copley Square (Trinity Church, Public Library) and a very short walk to the Public Garden. Best thing in the hotel is the skylit breakfast room on the 5th floor. As for the creepy parts...it's a little hard to find the entrance to the hotel (we drove past it once), which is on a nondescript stub of a street right next to a parking garage. You can get somewhat of a deal on parking, but the garage (at least on the weekend, when we were there) is kind of deserted & you have to find the management office (and not just use the payment machines) to get the discount. Lobby quiet & spooky, though they do have security there at off hours. Room was small & bathroom (though was clean & functional) looked a few decades old. Like I said, location of the free breakfast was nice but the breakfast itself was on the bare-bones end of the spectrum of cold continental stuff. Would stay here again, assuming again that the price was right. Hotel itself felt perfectly safe but would not recommend the parking garage to nervous single travelers.

Boston Common is a perfectly adequate hotel in Boston. I was able to book a room via Kayak for a good deal, it was by far the cheapest hotel in the heart of the city. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was on the small side but perfectly fine for one person. Could the place use a coat of paint? Sure, but it was extremely clean so really who cares? Great location, walkable to everything and extremely easy to get to from Logan via public transit. I'd recommend it.

We stayed at the Boston Common Hotel and Conference Center which is centrally located. It is an older Hotel that they have been upgrading. The Hotel is very convenient and provide a good base to tour Boston. They had a well equiped business centre just off the main lobby. Having stayed at many hotel for trade shows and conferences, this looks to be a good one for business travellers.

The presentation is good but the service is excellent. The parking garage was affordable, a short walk accross the street where we parked and didn't move the car for 4 days. After departing, Irealized that I had left a drawer full of clothes which housekeeping had taken to the front desk. The hotel was very helpful and gladly took the time and effort to ship the box of clothes to my home in Toronto. They followed up after as well. Good Customer Service.

In all of our travels we have never had such a poor hotel! We knew going in that this was an old "historic" hotel, but we never imagined it like this. The first room they put us in was maybe 8' X 8' with a tiny window. You could barely get by the bed to go to the bathroom. We asked for a larger room because my husband has issues with claustrophobia - they put us in a room a little bit larger that had 2 windows. Just when I thought it was going to be OK - I went to take a shower and the tile in the shower and on the ceiling of the bathroom had mildew/mold growing in it! We were supposed to stay in Boston 4 nights in this hotel and had prepaid the room through a 3rd party booking - needless to stay we will not do that ever again! Luckily after contacting the airlines and booking another hotel for 1 night we only had to stay at this place for 2 nights and flew home early. We are getting a refund for the last 2 nights at Boston Common!

This is the case of an average hotel becomes more interesting given its location.
The building is old, bedrooms are ok but the linen is horrible.
Service is non existant.. But who cares about all that when you booked it through hoteltonight.com? That is the spirit..

We stayed here in August 2011 when it was still the John Hancock Hotel and Conference Center, but accommodations remain the same. The rooms are quite small and dated, but you get what you pay for. This was a very reasonably priced hotel with a great staff, considering it is right next to Trinity Church in back bay. T stop within a minute's walk, very nicely located.

Would definitely stay again, great prices.

I recently stayed at the Boston Common Hotel and Conference Center. I have to say the service was remarkable, from the minute we walked into the door the staff was warm and welcoming. The receptionists were adorable. We headed up to our room; which we were pleased with. The location of the hotel is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Britney,Nyika?,Alisha were great with directions and everything else. These girls provided excellent service with a warm smile. although the hotel is a bit outdated I will recommend it to a friend or a family member.
