I stayed at the Hotel Commonwealth because it was one of the few hotels available in Boston during my stay with a room rate near our corporate max of $250/night. (It was slightly more expensive here.) Other hotels in town were going for $350/night and up. I was wondering what I was going to give up for that $100 less. Well, let's just say that I've stayed at those more expensive hotels and the hotel here was better from start to finish.
The service from the first moment I pulled up in front of the hotel was efficient and friendly. Even better, the room was simply exquisite. Much larger than your ordinary hotel room. So large, in fact, that there was a second flat screen TV in front of the couch to go with the one in front of the bed. I was on the top (5th) floor overlooking bustling Kenmore Square but the windows are sufficiently sound-proofed that I didn't hear any sounds from the street below.
Kenmore Square and nearby Fenway Park are great areas offering a full range of dining options. Nonetheless, the hotel offers 24 hour room service. And would you believe, free Internet (albeit a little slow)?!
I come to Boston often and while this hotel isn't particularly convenient to our office in the Financial District, the T is about a 30 foot walk from the front door.
I'm trying to think of a negative for the hotel. The lobby's on the second floor, requiring you to walk up the stairs with your suitcase (or take the elevator)? If this is the worst I can say about the hotel, you get the point. Great hotel at any price. At the price I got it for relative to the competition, a huge bargain.
