“Perfect location if you were a Red Sox fan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

Stayed for 10 nights and booked into this hotel on recommendations of Trip Advisor contributors.
Booking on line was easy and the hotel communicated promptly up to the time I was about to depart confirming my booking.
Check in: On arrival, check in was quick and easy and the reception staff was more than friendly and I was extremely happy to find out that I had been upgraded to a suite which was an unexpected but pleasant surprise. (Room 222)
Rooms: The room was spacious with a separate lounge and large toilet/bathroom that complemented the room well. Pillows and bed were comfortable and the room clean. The quality of housekeeping throughout the 10 days was inconsistent with some days the room being tidier than others but this was a minor issue. This also applied to the supply of toiletries where some days they were replenished and other days not totally. The only thing I really missed was the ability to make my own cup of tea or coffee which was not provided in the room. A well stocked mini bar was provided.
Wi-Fi: provided as part of room rate and functioned perfectly well in my room. Although I did not see a “Business centre” a computer room with 2 computers (Mac and PC) and printers were available for use. This proved extremely useful when printing out street maps and Basketball and theatre tickets!
Gym: There was a small but reasonably well equipped gym available to the guests on the 3rd floor.
Staff: No complaints there, everyone was really friendly and the front office staff was knowledgeable and helpful.
Location: I felt that the Hotel was located quite a distance from the main “City” (25 - 30 mins pleasant stroll to Boston Common) but compensated for the fact that the T station (Kenmore) was next to the Hotel. Fantastic location if you were a baseball – Red Sox fan as Fenway Park is just behind the hotel.
Overall impressions: A good experience but the location was not the best for my purpose. Nevertheless a comfortable stay with helpful and friendly staff.

Talk about style, comfort, and absolute value.....Hotel commonwealth was perfect. We(my fiance and I) stayed a couple weeks ago for the weekend and loved it! The location was perfects since we wanted to be able to walk to most attractions and being one block away from Fenway park made even better. As for our room, we had the deluxe suite on the top floor that looked out over the city. It was awesome to have vaulted ceilings in a hotel room...made us feel extra special the whole weekend. Service was absolutely great as well...I forgot a toothbrush and the front desk had one at the door within minutes of my request. Oh and yes, the room even has a doorbell that any of your guests can ring to get you out of the most comfortable bed ive slept in, in a long time! Perfect place for a perfect weekend.

Room Tip: Stay in a suite if you are staying in Boston..its the only way to truly experience that city.

Because we have family and friends nearby, we travel fairly often to the Boston area. Up till now, we'd almost always stayed in one of the Kimpton hotels, but they were pretty high-priced when we checked them out for our most recent trip. So, based on its first-rate Trip Advisor reviews, and on its reasonable rates, we decided to try the Hotel Commonwealth. From now on, it will be the first place we check when we go to Boston. From the time we got out of our car, everything went right: the front door staff and front desk staff were both as friendly as any we've seen, and the room was one of those rare surprises that look even better in reality than they did in the on-line photos. Not only was it comfortable but quiet--very important to me as I'm fairly sensitive to noise. The quiet was all the more impressive when you consider the hotel's setting on a very pretty but very busy street: we had all the pleasure of being able to gaze out our window at the street scene, with none of the roar wafting up to us from below. The location is also great: we hadn't realized that, in booking at the Commonwealth, we were landing just about a block away from our favorite French bistro in Boston, and you can go in almost any direction and find a nice assortment of good restaurants and bars. The best direction to go in, though, is down Commonwealth Avenue heading away from Kenmore Square: walking along such an elegant stretch each day was one of the pleasures of staying here. If you don't feel like walking, however, you couldn't be any closer to a subway station: walk out the door of the hotel, turn left, and you're there in just a few steps. Also, if you go past the entrance to the subway, there's a good convenience store--something we always find convenient (fittingly enough) when we want to stock up on drinks and snacks during a hotel stay.

A wonderful hotel and fabulous staff. However extremely frustrating that management won't put out coffee in the early morning before the restaurant opens. This is the only major hotel I know across the country that forces us to go across the street to get anything. Hotel has 24 hour kitchen and used to have coffee. Very odd. Many of us work early. So they lose business for restaurant since we leave to find coffee and food at Brueggers and don't come back to eat.

One of those hotels where everything is pretty close to perfect. Accommodations were excellent, the restaurants are both terrific, but, most of all, the staff. They were warm and friendly, but not in that intrusive kind of way. Knowledgeable and accommodating. Location (especially if you're heading to Fenway!) is perfect and readily accessible from the highway. Just can't say enough good things. No doubt that I'm coming back.

Room Tip: I was in one of their mini-suites. Really nice room to spread out a little and relax in. Second fl...

We spemt 6 nights at the Commonwealth Hotel in Boston and we were not dissapointed. The welcome from the staff at the front desk was warm and hospitable.
The room we were allocated was Room 216 on the 2nd floor, which turnwd out to be not a good chice as it is right above the Eastern Standard restaurant which at night pays very loud music, which was loud enough to be disturbing despite ear plugs.
This is when a good hotel comes to the fore. Having raised our concerns with the front desk we were promptly moved to a room on the 5th floor - bliss!!! - it was identical in size to the 2nd floor room but much quieter.
This made our stay in Boston much more pleasant.

The hotel staff are great, the location is good - especially the buzz when the Red Sox are playing at Fenway Park, also the T station fro the Green line is right outside the hotel, which makes travel to downtown Boston easy.
From reading other reviews of the hotel I would agree it will be our preferred place to stay, when we next visit Boston.
One caveat for intending tourists - the city of Boston charges 3 separate taxes which are added to your hotel bill and needs to be factored into hotel bills in the city.

That apart we enjoyed our visit to Boston and can say the our enjoyment was enhanced by the staff and amenities of the Hotel Commonwealth

Room Tip: Don't stay in rooms in close proximity to the Eastern Standard Restaurant / Bar unless you enjoy...

This place is so nice, the staff treats you like family and will help you with anything. The rooms are so nice and very clean. Beds are comfortable and our view is my favorite, it's the fenway suite and worth it. The bathroom is spacious and the shower is nothing I've ever felt. So make syre your trip to Boston has this hotel in more mind
