“The best kept secret in Boston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2011

My husband and I recently stayed at the Commonwealth for 4 nights and 5 days and what a pleasant surprise it was! From the moment we pulled up to the front door to the moment we pulled away to return home, our experience with the Commonwealth was first-class! To begin with, the bellmen were helpful, friendly and professional. When we got to our room, we needed ice for our cooler and the bellman offered to fill it without us asking. The room was beautifully decorated including the art work, window treatments, furniture and bedding. Immaculate condition! We stayed in a Junior suite and enjoyed the separate sitting room, with the curtain for privacy, if needed. The bed was very comforable and loaded with extra pillows. The bathroom was spacious, very clean, and equiped with everything we needed including bathrobes and a hair dryer. Check in was a wonderful experience as well. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and always gave us a smile or greeted us each and every time we passed by during our stay. The hotel is conveniently located near Fenway Park, only a 5 minute walk to a game, and right near a T subway stop so it was easy to get into town. If you are thinking of staying in Boston, and want a quality hotel for a nice price, look no further than the Commonwealth: The best kept secret in Boston!

Room Tip: Didn't like the food at the Eastern Standard

A hotel that just oozes Old World charm and elegance, but at the same time is warm and inviting in an intimate, friendly way. The front desk staff, concierge, doormen, and valet parking staff are unfailingly polite and helpful. Having two wonderful restaurants located adjacent to the hotel is an added bonus. My significant other and I stayed in a junior suite, which was beautifully appointed and had a very comfortable bed. Best of all, it was totally soundproof -- you'd never know busy Kenmore Square was just 4 floors below. Having the subway station located very close by also makes it easy to access the other areas of Boston that you might like to visit during your stay. We had beautiful weather during our stay so opted to take a very pleasant stroll all the way from the hotel to the North End, passing along Newbury St. and through the Public Garden on our way. We're looking forward to staying at the Hotel Commonwealth on many more occasions and would highly recommend it! Our only word of caution is that valet parking is the only practical choice and it is a bit pricey at $42 per night.

We had our small wedding reception at the Hotel Commonwealth and all of our guests stayed there (including us) as well. The food, which was provided by the neighboring Eastern Standard, was phenomenal, as were the staff, who ensured that everything went smoothly throughout our ceremony and reception without being intrusive in any way. All other staff--from valets to reservations to bellhops--were exceptionally friendly and helpful, even with our multiple special requests. The room in which we stayed had a lovely view of Kenmore Square (we heard that some of the other rooms offered spectacular views of Fenway Park!). The room was impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, and had a palatial bathroom with a huge spa tub and well-lit make-up table. Although we were in the middle of all the action that Boston has to offer, the room was almost completely sound proof and the curtains blacked out 99% of the outside lights--we slept like babies. Overall, we'd highly recommend this hotel for a small event or for a Boston vacation. It truly deserves all of the accolades it has received from various travel mags.

The room was large, comfortable and clean. The hotel is right next door to the subway entrance and a taxi stand is out front. Doorman was great and very knowlegeable about what was close by. Easy walk to lots of restaurants, a small grocery and very safe neighborhood. Bus terminal is across the street. Fenway Park is right behind the hotel as is the House of Blues. Despite this, not noisy at night. Would definitely stay again. Parking is steep ($42 per day.)

Room Tip: Chcek the hotel's website; use AAA.

I stayed at the Hotel Commonwealth from May 24 - 28. I've stayed at various hotels in Boston through the years and this is definitely the nicest I've ever stayed in. My suite was immaculate, although the bed wasn't the most comfortable I've ever slept on. I wasn't overly fond of the room service from the Eastern Standard, but it certainly wasn't terrible. The location couldn't be beat. Right in the heart of Kenmore Square, and the T station is located just steps from the hotel entrance. I never had any noise problems, even though my room looked out onto Commonwealth Avenue. I would definitely stay here again.

From the moment we puilled up to Hotel Commonwealth, to our departure the next day, we were treated with friendly, courteous service. We had an appointment after check-out so we left our bags with the bellman who tagged them and stored them safely for us. When we returned, our bags and car were promptly retrieved.
The jr suite was very spacious, clean and comfortable We will definetely recommend Hotel Commonwealth to our friends, and will stay there during our next trip to Boston.

Top to bottom, the hotel experience was outstanding. The concierge staff was attentive and helpful and spot on with recommendations. The hotel was quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable. The staff was very professional, friendly and extremely helpful. We will recommend it highly and will make it our destination hotel in Boston.
