Made plans to meet friends at Trade as it is convenient for us from work and the bar had a good reputation for cocktails and appetizers. When I arrived ahead of my friends, the hostess told me the tables were open at the bar, but one area was reserved. I found a table at the far end of the bar, and sat down. (The last party had just left the table and their dishes had not yet been cleared, but I wanted to settle in and give my card to the waitstaff to treat my friends). A waitress came over and made a comment about me sitting before she had a chance to clear, something about being unsanitary (I ask you, have you ever sat down down at a table before it had been cleared...? It seems to me, it's up to the diner to make the decision around this point). I smiled and explained I wanted to give her my card to be sure I could treat. My friends arrived and we ordered drinks. (The reserved area, right beside us, was beginning to fill in---men in tuxedos for an event in Boston. I will admit, this may have impacted the waitstaff's ability to see us). After delivering our drinks, a different waitress brought us the tab and my card (to cash out...not sure why but later the original waitress apologized saying it was a mistake). Unfortunately the jig was up, my companions were onto my plans and were having no part of it. I signed the tab and the original waitress came back by to ask if I still wanted to keep the tab open. I said I did and that we'd like to order. We were brought menus but after 45 minutes, neither waitress had returned. We decided to leave and head someplace else for dinner. It was clear we were leaving, and FINALLY our waitress arrived. She asked if we were all set. Can you imagine? Talk about being out of the loop! I explained we had hoped to order dinner but since we hadn't seen anyone in 45 mins, I'd like my credit card. She brought me my card and I'll admit, was apologizing the entire time I was putting my card away and even while we put on our coats...but this place has had a reputation of having poor service, in spite of Jody Adams ownership. I have to agree and won't return.
