I'm an unabashed fan of Kimpton's chain of hotels, having stayed in them in Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Portland, OR, and may rank this one as my favorite so far. LOVED the location in the heart of the city - easy walking to historical sites, downtown restaurants and access to the T. It's a modern building directly across the street from a centuries-old cemetery and church, right on the famed Freedom Trail.
I stayed in #904 for 3 nights and everything about the room exuded "comfort" for a tired business traveler. My colleague and I arrived mid-morning from a cross-country redeye flight and the hotel held our bags and gave a courtesy call when our rooms were ready for check-in. My room had a queen bed, lots of storage, a comfortable sitting chair and spacious desk for work and a huge bathroom with walk-in shower (great water pressure, too). I never heard any noise from hallways inside the hotel (well, ok, one instance of a slamming door around 9am from an adjoining room) and the outside street noise was pretty minimal (a couple sirens and a rowdy street party on Friday night night). Plush furnishing and quite possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. 5*****, easy!
The smallest complaints would be a TV that was slightly grainy (flat screen, HD-ready but seemed to not be HD-functioning) and a broken 2" piece of plastic/silicone seal at the base of the shower door that allowed water spray to leak onto the bathroom floor (I forgot to mention this when checking out for maintenance to address). And while I really did enjoy the continental breakfast (yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, juice, etc), it's worth noting that the hotel's restaurant is currently being remodeled, so that hot food is only available via room service (but the restaurant is scheduled to reopen soon, according to front desk staff and a typed notice left in the room).
Nearby restaurants "hits" I'd recommend are: jm Curley, Stoddard's Fine Food & Ale and (for a splurge) Oceanaire Seafood Room. The Beantown Pub across the street was also fun for beer/cocktails and pool. A "miss" (recommended by someone at the front desk for nearby breakfast) was Black Seed Cafe - underwhelming. Oh well, can't win 'em all!
In conclusion, an AWESOME hotel with a great location - I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Also, since we booked several months in advance (via 3rd party, HotelPlanner.com) we got an excellent room rate - about 40% less than list price...check it out.
occasional street noise means a room on an upper floor is quieter

I give your review 5-stars. Thorough, comprehensive, and of course overwhelmingly positive doesn't hurt! Sounds like you had a great stay. Thank you for calling attention to the few areas where we can improve (we have dispatched our engineering team to fix 904's shower and we are exploring entertainment options for our in-room system (aka TV) that will include HD channels).
Thank you for staying and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
