“Brighton Brunch Memoirs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Tavern in the Square has Sunday brunch. There were three of us plus le bébé, who was taken with the televisions, each one tuned to a different station. Both the menu and the website say this is an "Award Winning All-You-Can-Eat Sunday Brunch Buffet" but they don't say who made the award.

You get omelet tickets. We asked if you could order off the menu and the answer was no. I asked another server and the host if there was anything but eggs. They didn't know. It turns out there is a 50-foot buffet most of which is covered in eggs. Yes, but there are many other choices so you can eat just fine without eggs.

Le bébé did not want teeny pieces of pancake but went for bagel and watermelon. We did the buffet lines: salad, lunch, omelet, more eggs and occasional bacon. Them's who can had Eggs Benedict, scrambles, pancakes and French toast. Them's who couldn't just ate "apple-wood smoked bacon." Don't try this at home.

The coffee was fine. The desserts include torte, cheesecake, layer cake, eclairs, danish, muffins, fudge brownies and sundaes. We recommend you drive to brunch so you can walk off the calories when you leave. You may have to go to Iowa.

I would like to tell you how much it cost but I was a guest so I don't know. The price is not on the menu or the website. I sent them email. No answer yet.

“Great basic food with creative twists”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

There were 9 1/2 of us who decended on this place at lunchtime. By 1/2 I mean a 15 month old child who eats virtually anything. It was a farewell luncheon for a colleague. The place was not busy at the time. They seated us immediately, accommodated all our various special requests, and were most patient with us. This is the second time I've been there and the food is excellent. It's sort of a basic menu, but with just enough creative twists to make it interesting. I had the chipolte turkey burger. Many places have one token alternative to a hamburger. This has about 3-4 alternative choices.
The one downside for my taste is all the big flat screen tvs with different channels on adjacent screens. My guess is that at night this would be a pretty alive place and may be a totally different dining experience. The other downside is the parking...aside from a few spaces on the street if you get lucky, parking is non-existent.

“Good food, good sports, weird bros”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

Tavern in the Square is an awesome place on a Sunday afternoon. The windows are all open so it feels like you're sitting outside b/c they're floor to ceiling. The brunch on Sunday is all you can eat for about 13$ which is a great deal because the food is really good. If you like any sort of sports, this is the place to be, there are TVs everywhere you look. But if you want to go dancing, this is not the place to be, there is no dance floor and if you bust a move, you stand out (a lot). Also, lots of "bros" at this bar, everyone is wearing a polo or is fresh out of college so its a bit cliquey. I prefer going here for a big game or for a weekend brunch. But if you're still in college and don't love dancing, this is the place to be.
