“Thank You Captain Ron!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I took my son aboard the Liberty Star on the first official day of Harbor Fest. It was late in the day and there was a small group of us aboard. My son and I were dressed in our colonial/Rev War kit. He had the experience of working the lines and even sitting at the wheel (with their close guidance) for a very long time. The crew gave my son and I an experience we'll never forget. Thanks, guys, we appreciated it. I recommend Liberty Fleet and particularly the Liberty Star to anyone looking for an enjoyable experience aboard a Tall Ship in Boston Harbor.

“Fourth of July Fireworks Cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I was hosting out of town guests on the Fourth and wanted to give them a taste of the Pops Extravaganza without actually having to camp out on the Esplanade in the soul-sucking heat. 11 of us, including five kids, took the Fireworks cruise on the Liberty Clipper, which is the larger of the two ships available. It was a gorgeous, warm night on the Harbor. The crew was very pleasant and efficient. The cash bar was fully stocked and even had Sam Adams Summer on tap (YUM). We were served burgers and hot dogs, potato salad, and for dessert, watermelon, a variety of really tasty cookies and dessert bars. No complaint on the food at all. There were two bathrooms available belowdecks. The one I used was very very small with just the toilet in a closet-sized room but that's all I needed! A larger or taller person might have a hard time in there but perhaps the other bathroom was larger. You are on a boat so expectations need to be adjusted. My only issue is that it might have been helpful to have more input from the crew as to when the food was available and a heads-up as to when the fireworks were starting. We were all talking and having such a great time, we forgot to notice that they had started. Since we were in the Harbor and not on the Charles, the noise from the fireworks was minimal although the view, when we finally noticed (!) was fantastic. I highly recommend this cruise and this outfit for an enjoyable, low key day or night on the water. Thank you, Liberty Fleet for a memorable evening!

“Key to a fun 4th of July experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

We got a late tip on things to do around Boston on July 4th, and we were looking for something holiday-themed that would still allow us to get to the fireworks on time. Somehow, I hadn't previously thought about the annual U.S.S. Constitution Turnaround Cruise. There are several options for tourist vessels accompanying Old Ironsides on the cruise, along with seemingly everyone in the area with a boat, but a tall ship seemed to be particularly appropriate. For $100/each, we got the last two tickets on the Liberty Clipper, for a 3 1/2 hour cruise, barbeque on-board, and commentary. The entire crew was friendly, helpful and professional - only ignoring passengers when they had work that demanded their attention. The Captain assured,m as he had announced, that he stayed as close to the Constitution as the police and Coast Guard would allow - even being warned back once or twice.
This was a great way to experience history, a nice sail, and a great sunny day.
I noted that most of the more negative past reviews of Liberty Fleet centered around their B&B facilities and/or expectations that weren't met. A schooner is, of course, going to have somewhat cramped quarters. If you expect a spacious room, you need to be a little more realistic, the Liberty Fleet accommodations are about average for a schooner. SAs for other expectations, you need to be realistic - and look at TripAdvisor first! If you still aren't sure, call the company. I'm sure they'll give you accurate info rather than have a cranky passenger.
We would gladly do this again just to have a nice few hours on the water while seeing the oldest, active commissioned ship in the Navy underway.
REALITY CHECK: The Constitution is probably not going to be under sail - she's an older lady and needs the help of a tug to safely move around. And your schooner will be under motor power while actually following the Constitution. Sails do not allow for precise maneuvering, and bumping into Old Ironsides would be a REALLY bad thing!

“Low Key sail in Boston Harbor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

We took the 1.5 hour sail and enjoyed the relaxing sail in and out of Boston Harbor. The captain was very engaging and had a great sense of humor and "encouraged" many of the passengers to take the wheel and hoist the sails. This is not a thrill seeking experience - just some time to enjoy some time off from the crazy tourist scene that is downtown Boston!

“Heave Ho!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

We took a 2 hour harbor tour - the guys even got to help hoist the sails! Very cool sailing on wind power alone. Not an activity for little ones, they will be bored, but good for teenagers and there was a bar on board for the adults. Crew was super friendly and all the men got a kick out of pulling up the sails. Tip: try to get on early, as there were not enough seats for all the passengers. Some people had to stand the entire voyage.
