My family and I were attending Cirque du Soleil at the TD Garden and decided to have dinner at The Grand Canal. Our experience was similar to the others that rated The Grand Canal as Terrible. So, believe us until the owners change course.
Here are some details: We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer, 2 chicken dishes and the The Grand Canal hamburger. Simple enough, eh? Not so fast. All were delivered at the same time. The bruschetta, in particular, demonstrated the owners' intent: a slab of bread covered with cubed tomatoes (really, cubed?), cubed white cheese, a few slices of red onion, all drowning in a dark oil / vinegar mixture. My guess is a person threw it together in under 15 seconds. The bruschetta was terrible.
When I ordered The Grand Canal hamburger, I very specifically asked that the meat be cooked medium well. It was delivered rare to medium rare, requiring a return to the kitchen. Of course, because the wait staff have to bus the tables too, our waitress didn't return to check with us until my wife and daughter were nearly done with their chicken dishes. Consequently, when the replacement hamburger was delivered cooked fine, my family observed me eating.... Note to owners: the reason you pay for both wait staff and people to bus the table is so that your patrons can be serviced by the wait staff. For the $20 an hour you saved, you've earned this review.
Regarding the two chicken meals: my wife nearly always orders chicken ceasar salad at new to us restaurants in the hope that she won't be disappointed. In this respect, she made a good choice - the salad was OK.
As for our waitress, she was a sweetheart and earned her tip. My recommendation to her is that she seek employment elsewhere.
My bottom line: I recommend as the others do that you go elsewhere.
