My partner and I had planned a birthday celebration in Boston at the Green Turtle. This four-day weekend turned out to be memorable for many reasons. Unfortunately, this celebration occurred the Thursday after the Boston Marathon bombings. We went to Boston with mixed feelings of sadness, outrage, and anticipation of a great visit to a wonderful city.
The reason that we chose the Green Turtle was because of the phenomenal reviews in Trip Advisor; however, I've gone to places with great reviews and been underwhelmed. This was certainly not the case at the Green Turtle. We were greeted at the dock by Jon and Karen, who explained all of the little details that would make our stay a pleasant one. The room itself was bright, cheery, and well-apponted, with a view to die for: the Inner Harbor and city skyline. Thursday turned out to be a lovely day, followed by Fleetwood Mac at TD Garden that night. However, Friday was a different story: we woke up to the news that Boston had been shut down, and we were to "shelter-in-place". Our host and hostess could not have made this a more pleasant experience; they provided us with lunch on the deck of their boat and would not accept a dime in payment. They provided deck chairs for us on the dock, as we watched the police boats and helicopters go by all day, and they hooked us up with a great Chinese restaurant that was able to deliver dinner. By Saturday morning, Boston began to return to a semblance of normal, and we were able to resume our plans. Our day lost in Boston was nothing in comparison with the loss of lives and limbs in the bombing.
The fact is that we didn't even lose a day, because our very gracious hosts comp'd us an extra night to make up for being sheltered in place. We will never forget their kindness and generosity, and the Green Turtle will always be our number one choice for a stay in Boston.
Thank you, Karen and Jon, so much!
BOSTON STRONG !

Karen and Jon the innkeepers of this little gem couldn't have made our experience more delightful. The rooms on the Green Turtle 1 are comfortable, warm and inviting and include a well-stocked kitchenette. No amenity was left unaddressed (for example, snacks, drinks, coffee, tea, bottled water, toiletries and breakfast are all included - at no additional cost). Jon & Karen couldn't have been more warm and inviting, and insisted on providing us a delicious breakfast every day. The views of the Boston harbor and skyline are stunning. This oasis is quiet and serene while still being only steps from the complete vibe of downtown Boston. Highly Recommend this for vacation, business, or a truly special weekend getaway.

Room Tip: Green Turtle I are individual rooms; Green Turtle 2 & 3 are full, 2-bedroom vessels complete wit...

When planning our trip we also wanted to include Boston. Checking out Tripadvisor I just kept coming over to the Green Turtle. Booking process went very smoothly, and our welcome by Jon and Karen made us feel very welcome indeed.
The Green Turtle is quite simply wonderful! Its location, with the wonderful views of Boston, the sailboats, the really big boats, the sun on the water... It's beautifully decorated, has a small but very efffective kitchen, great shower with plenty of hot water. And the bed... Just so comfy with all the pillows! Boston is a wonderful city, and we had a wonderful few days. We were very lucky with the weather too, so managed to find some time to sit outside on the 'porch' and enjoy the peace and quiet of the waterfront after the hustle and bustle of Boston.
Jon was very informative w/regards to the free shuttle bus, the ferry, tips for restaurants, and he always found time for a nice chat. Wonderful host!
Will very heartily recommend The Green Turtle. Just book it, you just can't go wrong here!

After reading all the great reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided to make the Green Turtle Floating B&B our base for our 4 night's stay in Boston. We booked the Loggerhead suite, which one of two suites in Green Turtle 1, a floating Houseboat. The owners Karen and Jon also rent out two yachts, Green Turtle 11 and 111, and live on another one.

We've been to Boston a few times before and have always stayed in Back Bay, so we had planned to stay in either the Lenox or Copley Square Hotel, but as we were arriving on the day of the marathon, these hotels were out of our price range. Looking back now, I'm so relieved we chose to stay slightly out of town.

We arrived at Logan airport at lunchtime on 15 April, and caught the airport shuttle bus (no. 66) down to the water front, and from there we got a private water taxi straight across to the Green Turtle for $20 each. What a perfect way to get there, passing the beautiful vistas of Boston along the way. Jon and Karen met us off the taxi and showed us around our fantastic suite, and gave us tips for transport to get into central Boston as well as places to eat/visit.There was a really handy free hospital shuttle bus just 5 minutes walk away that dropped off/picked up at North Station, which was perfect for us during our stay. It ran every 15 minutes (30 minutes at night) from first thing in the morning until the early hours.

We were just unpacking when we heard the dreadful news on the TV about the explosions at the marathon. It was certainly going to be an eventful stay but we were determined that it wouldn't let it affect our plans.

We stayed close to the B&B that evening, so we walked past the USS Constitution (about 10 minutes walk), over the Charles Bridge and in to the North End (about 30 minutes walk in total). We found a lovely little restaurant, Al Dente, and had the best Italian meal ever! We sat amongst marathon runners and their families, as well as locals, all in shock watching the news unfolding on the TV.

Returning after dark, the views of the Boston waterfront from the B&B were wonderful. We also loved watching the planes taking off/landing at Logan airport.

Every morning you get to choose what time you'd like breakfast, and wow, what a breakfast home cooked by Karen! I took photos every day, and posted them on Facebook much to the envy of all my friends back home. One day we went on a trip to Martha's Vineyard and had to be at a nearby hotel by 6.30am. We were delighted that Karen didn't mind cooking another amazing breakfast, delivered by Jon still in his PJs just after 6am!

But the real test of how good a hotel/B&B is when things go wrong. Unfortunately on our last day in Boston the whole city was 'locked down' and we weren't allowed to go out. We were scheduled to check out of the Green Turtle at 11am, and store our bags there until out flight later that evening. Someone else was checking into our room that afternoon, and we were concerned about what was going to happen. But we needn't have been. Along with two other lovely guests from New Hampshire, Karen and Jon treated us to a lunch of pizza and drinks on one of their yachts, and as the next guests were running late, let us stay in our room until we got a taxi to the airport late afternoon. It certainly wasn't the last day we'd planned to have but Karen and Jon, and the other guests, made it an enjoyable one nevertheless! So, if you're reading this, thank you very much.

To summarise, if you fancy staying slightly out of town in a unique and friendly setting, this really is the place for you. It's true what everyone says, Karen and Jon really are the perfect hosts.

As this was our first time to Boston, and we were celebrating our anniversary, we wanted to stay at some place unique and special. The Green Turtle definitely fit the bill!! We enjoyed spectacular views of Boston Harbour and the room was very comfortable and well appointed. The bed was so comfortable we really didn't want to get up in the morning, but with so many sights to see, and a terrific breakfast every morning to look forward to, well we made the effort. Jon and Karen are fabulous hosts, with a wealth of information on things to do, travelling around Boston using the transit system, where to eat, etc that we knew we were in good hands. We would highly recommend The Green Turtle to anyone visiting Boston, and we definitelywill be returning for another trip, as there is so much to see and do that you can't do it all in a few days. Thanks Jon and Karen!! And also thanks to the friendly folks of Boston, who were so helpful to travellers trying to navigate around their beautiful city.

My husband and I just needed a night away. He wanted to stay in Boston and I wanted to go to the North Shore (we live just 10 miles north of Boston)...I remembered reading a Yankee Magazine article about Green Turtle a couple of years before. When I saw all the great reviews on Trip Advisor, I knew I have found a perfect compromise for us. Despite arriving as the latest NorthEaster was winding down (was Blowing Like Snot, as they say), we settled in to our warm, cozy suite and watched some amazing sights in the harbor. Karen and Jon have done an amazing job as innkeepers, thinking of all the little things you might need or want. They have gone very high-end on their bedding, linens and towels, which just adds to the luxury. They are a wealth of local information, both nautical and land-based. They steered us to the Navy Yard Bistro for dinner and boy, was that just spot on: great wines, very varied menu and cozy with candlelight and attentive, but not hurried service, just what we were looking for. Breakfast was surprisingly yummy. While we really thought the Green Turtle I was special, after touring the Green Turtle II and III, if we were traveling with another couple, those are just spectacular, especially once Jon finishes some special touches like the Wet Bar out on the Aft Deck. Did I mention that it also has a European tub and a fireplace...? Really a special escape and just down the street from us...can only imagine how great it must be when there isn't a winter storm going on...!

Room Tip: If traveling with another couple, family or friends, seriously consider Green Turtle II or III, so m...
