“Family of 5”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2008

As you know, i have a family of 5. One child and 4 adults. They did pretty well supplying us with the beds. We had 2 double beds and an extra 1 person bed. BUT in the bathroom there are only 3 towels. So i call the desk to bring some towels up, but their service is SO bad that you have to get them yourself. We also had a horrible view of the construction of dead buildings. And there is no place to park in front of the hotel except at a garage which is a few blocks away. When i asked how to get to the garage, they gave us directions but one of them at the end said to look for the MGH sign outside but we couldnt find it BECAUSE IT WAS INSIDE THE GARAGE(they don't really give great directions). That was after we went to ask them a second time for directions. But everything else was within reach, all the places we have been planning to go to weren't far away.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience staying at the Constitution Inn. I cant say enough good things about the staff there. When I thought I lost my backpack, all of the staff immediately got on the phones contacting cab companies to see if it was left there. Even a non-employee there was trying to help. Rita and the rest of the staff were extremely polite, very helpful, and had great senses of humor!!!

It is located in the Navy Yard in Charlestown. Lots of historic stuff to see within walking distance. Close by is Tavern on the Water, where you can enjoy drinks and good food with a great view of the harbor. You can also grab breakfast at Finagle a Bagel, which is about a five minute walk from the hotel. A few blocks away you can jump on a trolley tour that takes you all around Boston. Also nearby is a ferry that will take you to Long Wharf in Boston for a mere $1.80. Located on Long Wharf is the New England Aquarium if you're interested....

Anyway, I would definitely stay there again, without hesitation. I cant wait to get back to Boston....

I was visiting Boston for the first time because I was interested in attending Emerson College. However, my parents and I found (like with all cities) that all of the hotels in Boston were very expensive. We actually found Constitution Inn by using this website. The price was far cheaper and the reviews were good.

I was very pleased with my experience there. For staying at the hotel, we got free parking. There were a few places to eat nearby (Finagle A Bagle, etc.) Traveling to the college was a breeze courtesy of the ferry and the shuttle bus was a nice accomodation. The people were very helpful and we all appreciated the view on the water, but most importantly, the quiet! Constitution Inn, like many others have said, is very much a hidden gem and I highly recommend it. No, it is not luxurious, but it is comfortable, a reasonable price, and very quiet.

Had read the good reviews and booked the Constitution Inn for a one night stay.
The location was fine. We visited the Museum and the ship (both worth a visit) and really enjoyed taking the shuttle to downtown Boston (coming back with the last shuttle at 8pm with Boston lights in the background was a real hit - amazing value for 1.70$!)
We also had a nice dinner at the nearby bistro (with a discount for guest of the Constitution Inn).

The room was decent enough for the price but good sleep was another story. We got a room with doors communicating to neighbours on each side. I can't really say whether it was because of the doors or paper-thin walls but we felt like if we were sleeping in a dorm - hearing our neighbours as if they were in our room. A couple on one side coughed and snored all night, on the other side a family with young children watched TV (after 11pm the staff did asked them to turn it down), talked so we could follow every bit of the conversation. We had a terrible night and even if the price is reasonable it is not worth it if you can't sleep.
If you sleep lightly I advise you to check with desk if all rooms have communicating doors to neighbours.

The staff was not overfriendly but we did get the information we needed.

We booked this place based on the reviews on Tripadvisor and we were pleased we did. Don't get me wrong this place is not perfect but it is great value for money compared to other hotels this close to the city.
We were a family with 2 kids, aged 7 and 11, staying at the beginning of April 2008. The room cost $139 per night sleeping the 4 of us in 2 queen beds which I have to say were not the most comfortable.
Our only other problem was regulating the temperature in the room which has some kind of thermostat which made no difference when we turned it to cool. Leaving us no option but to leave the windows open. Fine in a very chilly April but not much use in summer nor very kind to the environment!
However having said all that I would still recommend this place. It is very close to the USS Constitution as the hotel name suggests and the area is very quiet most of the time wih very little traffic noise (ask for a room on the Harour side of the hotel).
Our room had a fridge and microwave and coffee maker wih free tea and coffee. Also iron and ironing board plus hairdryer in the bathroom.
There is a nice local cafe (American Bakers Cafe) just down the street (through the archway) great for breakfast bagels etc also Finnagle A Bagel in the street across from that. Also a small Stop & Shop in the next block on the way to the USS Costitution for groceries etc.
Travel to the city couldn't be easier or cheaper. There is a free bus which picks up in the next street ( ask at reception) goes every 15 minutes and takes you to at least North station maybe further. It is meant for staff and patients of the hospital but everyone uses it and the driver asks no questions . Just hop on.
The other option is a wonderful 10 min boat ride (part of the "T" system) from Charlestown Navy Yard (approx 5min walk) to Long Wharf. Dropping you right by the New England Aquarium. Cost $1.70 each way . Kids free. Runs approx every half hour, more a peak times, less at weekends. Check timetable posted in shelter or pick up timetable once on board. These boat trips were one of the highlights of our trip. A wonderful way to approach the city each morning.
We had 3 nights at this hotel at the beginning of our trip and the staff although initially seemed a liitle disinterested, were all very pleasant and helpful if you make the effort to engage them in conversation and kept our cases in the back room while we collected a car for the next part of our trip to Cape Cod.
On our return we stayed the last 2 nights here( different room on the back -a little noisier) and the trip to the airport at 7.15am took approx 10 mins.
All in all a good hotel and we would certainly recommend it.

We were not quite sure what to expect with this accomodation when we arrived but it certainly exceeded our expectations. The location was perfect. It was actually better than being in central Boston as the views across the water are stunning and ferry ride each day is really special. We were jet lagged so one of our favourite memories of this accomodation was having an early morning stroll around the Quay - it is beautiful and so quiet. Few places nearby to pick up a hot chocolate or a good breakfast.
Room itself was a good size with en-suite. It had everything we needed - only downside was the blind that we had to put up ourselves each day!
You can walk into Boston itself from this hotel (about 20mins across the bridge) and its superbly located for the freedom trail.
Internet access was a plus, as was the swimming pool! Great value for money.

I was very pleased with my stay at the Constitution Inn. It is within 3 blocks of the ferry and also the U.S.S. Constitution. There was a free shuttle in the morning that went to the nearest subway station. I received a great discount as a member of the military. The rooms were large and had a fridge and microwave oven. The bed was a queen size and very soft. The staff were friendly and fairly helpful. Guests can use the YMCA located in the building. I would use them again in my next visit to Boston.
