I grew up in Charlestown and went home for my High School Reunion. Tourists to Boston should be aware that this is a very expensive hotel town and this is a 'walking city'. Everything is a 10 minute walk from the 'T' stop.
I didn't rent a car because it is nearly impossible to find a convenient and/or free place to park. So I flew in to Logan, took the free shuttle to the 'Airport T Station to 'Aquarium Station' Then the harbor shuttle over to Charlestown Navy Yard. The Inn is a short walk up the pier.
The Inn is also the Army/Navy YMCA, a bit dated but comfortable. The staff were very helpful, My room was upstairs on the corner, quiet, clean and very large. It had a mini kitchen, stove, microwave and refrigerator. I didn't spend any time in the room so the kitchen went unused.
If you want to go downtown you can either take the harbor shuttle back to Aquarium Station which is at the foot of the old Customs House and next to Fanuiel Hall. Or you can walk out the gate and take the bus to Haymarket, and use the subway to get around the city.
There are a couple of places to eat in the navy yard from a snack shop nearby to the 'Tavern On The Water' for dinner.
Charlestown is just out the gate, and there are a few places to eat in City Square and along Main Street to Thompson's Square. There are no fast food places in Charlestown, no Micky D's, no Burger King.
Coming back to the Constitution Inn r\there is a small grocery/convenience store. You can pick up some snacks & sodas and bring them back to your room.
I enjoyed my stay at the Constitution Inn and plan on staying there on my next visit.
