This is fairly standard Hilton fair - its one massive redeeming feature is its proximity to the airport; there's a "Skybridge" walkway to terminals A and E, the latter takes 9 minutes to walk to. Terminal A you can do in about 5 minutes.
Once you've negotiated the utterly charmless and unwelcoming checkin process, you're part of the hotel's cash-cow herd, and boy do they know it! Want to park over night? That's $34. Or if you prefer, you can go for their $18 hourly rate. Want to photocopy? Reception won't do it for you, you have to use the Business Centre - that'll be 50 cents a page, with a minimum $4.50 charge. And breakfast? $20 a head!
You'll probably decide to eat in the hotel, but you can't reserve a table in the tiny restaurant, so you'll have to join the throng of people milling around outside it who've been told to "write your name on the list and wait". You can use the time to ponder why the much larger dining room right next door is closed (only used for breakfast). Perhaps you'd prefer to splash out on a bit of room service? Well, a basic cheese and tomato pizza, as a *starter*, is going to cost you $17. Plus a 15% service charge. Plus a 3% administrative fee. Plus a $3.50 In-Room dining fee. Plus 7% state tax (I am quoting directly from the in-room dining menu here). Hello $25 pizza! And the guy that brings it probably expects a tip too. We gave up on this and walked to terminal E and had dinner at Dine Boston - it was very good, considerably cheaper, and came with the satisfaction of knowing that we hadn't given all our money to the hotel.
The starbucks coffee shop closes at lunchtime, because nobody drinks coffee after noon, right? You get one coffee sachet in your room, and no water, so use it wisely. Our iron didn't work - I examined it expecting to find a slot to feed in $20 bills or a credit card, but couldn't find one.
So on the plus side, hugely convenient for an early morning flight and reasonably comfortable. WiFi seems to be free at the moment - I guess they figure that continuing to charge for that as well might lead to some sort of uprising by the proletariat. Also, the views from the corner rooms of the airport and the Boston sky line are quite special. On the downside, it's essentially a soulless and ruthlessly efficient industrial machine for extracting maximum cash from tired travellers.
