“Here's why some reviews are great and some are terrible”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

Wondering why some of the reviews of this place are great and some are awful? Here's why. First, as everybody else says, these are apartments spread out all over the neighborhood. We stayed at 171 Botolph St, which was fine. The neighborhood was reasonably quiet. Copley House gets the big things right: the apartment was renovated, it was clean, everything we needed was there, and it was conveniently located. Where they fall down is in the details. The paint was chipped (Copley House: dark red is a terrible paint color for showing wear!). There was a knob missing on a cabinet door. There weren't enough pillows to make up the sofa bed. And there was a very stale smell in the apartment, which was blazing hot when I came in even though there were no heaters on (no prob, I opened the window). When I called the "emergency number" they gave me in an email, the person who answered said, "I'm in Houston. I'll call you back" and never did.

If you want budget digs in a decent place, Copley House is fine. If you need perfection, frills, or charm, this is not the place.

My friend and I had a terrible time at Copley House! Beginning with the mis-leading location. The main office and some of the rooms are at the Newton St. location, but be prepared to be sent walking with your bags to some other street many blocks away!!! We really needed to be close to Tremont St. for our business trip, which is why we chose the location! We parked our car in one place and then had to walk many blocks in the other direction to our room (apartment)! The room smelled stale, the carpet seemed dirty, everything was worn out, the towel rack in the bathroom fell off the wall when I reached for a towel. The light by the bed didn't work and the clock was wrong, causing us to leave for an appointment before we needed to!! There was no fan to move the air around, and only two windows would open. The room was on St. Stephen st., a highly student populated area, so it was very noisy with drunk kids yelling until 4:00 a.m.. We did not sleep a wink!! We then lugged our bags back to Newton St. to drop off the key and complain, with very little reaction from the front desk employee. Yikes! Do not stay here.

This hotel is a collection of rooms in different brown stone buildings on the edge of Back Bay. The address 239 West Newton St. is the location of their office, but the rooms may be located in different buildings. I stayed in a budget studio on a quite residential street (171 St. Botolph st, room 206). The location was super convenient to the NEU campus that I was visiting. The room was small, but efficient and even comfortable for one person. Having free internet was very nice. No space to store luggage as the closet was very small, so pack light, if you plan on staying here. Bathroom was remodeled and clean, as was the kitchenette. The bed was comfortable and linens were crisp clean. The carpet was questionable, and the walls could benefit from a new coat of paint. Cleaning service is provided even if you specifically ask about not having one, hence only 3 stars for service. Overall impression was more of a vacation rental than a chain hotel, which is a plus in my mind. Money wise, it is a very good deal in central Boston. I would gladly stay here again and would recommend to travelers looking for a basic accommodation with good value in Boston.

My husband and I recently spent a long weekend at Copley House on W. Newton St. in Boston. What a little gem of a discovery! The location is perfect: one block away from the bustle of downtown, Huntington Avenue, and the Prudential Center, yet nestled on a quiet and quite beautiful street of well kept brownstones. Our small suite was exactly what we needed with a well laid-out kitchenette, Wi-Fi, and good television access. Copley House would be perfect for couples or larger families with children. Copley House employees were very helpful and the check-in process was pleasant and quick. We highly recommend Copley House and definitely plan to stay there when we are next in Boston.

Room Tip: Rooms and suites are available to suit the size of your family.

The Copley House really isn't a hotel. A central office assigns studio apartments all located in the same neighborhood. Ours was #306 at 41 St. Stephens, It could have been fine, but was pretty rundown, in addition to having the following defects:

1- One of the two gas pilots on the stove was out.
2- The phone was there to make local calls, but it did not function.
3- A kitchen window was stuck open. We noticed this only after a maintenance man who had appeared promptly to fix the gas situation had left.

i was about to move to another hotel if i had the energy by now. basically nothing works here.

the airconditioner is blowing hot air into the room. it's about 90 degrees outside, and even hotter in my room at 215 w newton st. i called the front desk three hours ago, and the technician has never arrived.

wireless internet doesn't work 90% of the time. the stairs and handles look like they are about to fall apart.

you get what you pay for i would say. i'll definitely stay away from this place next time.

I was a bit concerned as we arrived since this was so much less expensive than other hotels in the area, but was very pleasantly surprised. Several people were put-off by the fact that this was really several small residential places instead of one hotel. So, if you are looking for room service, bell boys, a nice lobby, or a continental breakfast this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for clean, comfortable lodging in a beautiful residential neighborhood one or two blocks from the main street, this can't be beat. We reserved two rooms. The staff made sure that we were in the same building. Our parking space (reserved when we made the reservation) was right behind the unit. Many of the hotels can not offer that. The rooms were much more spacious than any hotel room, with a very small kitchen, sitting area, wifi, and very nice bathroom. The beds were extremely comfortable. I loved the larger room, being off the beaten path on a quiet street with a garden just down the street. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to my friends!
