“excellent, if a little quirky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2010

I stayed just after the hotel opened. It's located between the Italian quarter and the sea, which is great, albeit a little way from Boston centre. I was offered a complimentary upgrade to the Gold building, with full concierge service. This was excellent - the complimentary breakfast and supper were delightful, varied and exquisitely presented. The honour bar felt like we were being respected, and treated like grown-ups, and the selction of wines was superb, and reasonably priced. The staff could also not have been more helpful, being knowledgeable, friendly, respectful without being too in your face. The guest lounge was a lovely extra, and felt just like my home living room would, if I could have a Butler 24/7. The books about the locale, and the DVDs to borrow (some filmed in Boston) were a lovely touch The downside was that I was on fold-down sofa-bed, as my room was designed as a sitting room in a suite. It wasn't that comfortable. They won't catch me like that again! I accept that it was a free upgrade, though, and I could have declined. The other down-side - no pool. I'm going back in the next few days, and can't wait.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us in our Fairmont Gold building. Our entire team of colleagues is always happy to learn that a guest has chosen to stay with us a second time based on the merit we gained from your previous stay. Regarding the guestroom that you stayed in on your last stay, I am proud to share that this past December we updated the furnishings in all of our Fairmont Gold rooms and suites. Each guestroom is now fully furnished with the high quality bedding that matches the level of service that we aspire to provide for each of our guests on a daily basis.

This hotel is fantastic!!!! Is so elegant and cozy at the same time. The service in the front desk is great, everybody tried to help me in all my needs. The room is very big, and have the most comfortable bed that i ever sleep. The bathroom is huge and well designed. The service is perfect. Everything is super clean from the rooms to the lobby, everything was really perfect. I was afraid of the locaction because i was used to stay in the copley place area, but the hotel is located in a very beatifull area, near the water. I really loved this hotel!!!

We called the hotel directly to book a last minute Saturday night reservation because we were meeting friends in the North End and did not to bother driving back to the North Shore. Everything during our stay was perfect! Valet greeted us upon arrival to park our car and front desk registration was speedy and pleasant. The interior of this hotel is beautiful with warm tones and gorgeous views of Boston Harbor. The rooms are tastefully done, spacious and modern. Our King bed did not dissapoint with lots of pillows and just the right amount of "fluff". We didn't spend a lot of time in the room, however, I would definitely recommend this property to tourists and out of town business travelers.

The location is perfect for exploring Boston. there is an abundance of restaurants/shops and tourist sights are all within walking distance.

I booked a night in a deluxe room for my husband's 50th figuring the location was handy the North End and our restaurant of choice. I booked on their website and requested a good view and nice room to celebrate his big birthday. I don't think my request was ever read, as it was not acknowledged at the desk. The hotel was not very booked, and we had an adequate view but tthe staff easily could have given us an unobstructed water view on a floor higher than 2 with the number of people staying at the hotel. It was difficult to request another room because the front desk person takes you to the room in another building and did not say anything about the room to us at the desk. And who wants a hassle?- you pay Fairmont prices to not be hassled.

The valet staff did not open my car door, and we were offerred a luggage cart, but carried our own small overnight bags- not what one expects from a Fairmont. There were a few newspapers in front of a few rooms in the morning, but the hotel was pretty empty. We both felt were intruding on the help.

The room was modern and comfortable, and I wanted to give a 3 star service rating, but my husband read this and said even 2 stars was too high for the service level. He travels frequently, and reccommonds hotels to his colleages that stay in Boston, and we would never reccommend the Fairmont Battery Wharf.

There are lots of nice hotels in Boston with great service. Stay at the Copley Fairmont if you want a Fairmont even if it means taking a cab or try one of the other modern hotels. I don't think this hotel will be a Fairmont for long.

.Thank you for your valuable feedback. On behalf of the team here at The Fairmont Battery Wharf I would like to apologize for any inconveniences you may have encountered throughout your special stay with us. Please be aware that the perception of service for this stay was not consistent to the typical stay at our property as many of our previous guests have noted.
While our hotel is an integral part of the complex that makes up Battery Wharf we are but one piece of the many aspects that make up the newest revitalization of one of Boston's most historic wharfs. The two buildings that protrude into the Boston Harbor consist of hotel rooms only on the first two floors and private residences on the top four floors. For guests who may prefer a more exclusive experience with amenities such as a private reception desk and access to a private lounge we also offer the ability to book in our Fairmont Gold building set back a bit further from the water which features five additional guestroom floors and select rooms with partial harbor views. Please do not hesitate to contact any member of our team if there is anything we can do to provide more clarification regarding your experience.

We stayed in the gold building and, whilst i agree that it is less favourably located than the main hotel, the security offered as a result of access to this block is really top notch and the personal service superb. I agree with the review by neilma below regaring the service provided by Emily, she really did go out of her way to help us enjoy Boston suggesting and booking restaurants and attractions. Alex was also excellent. We too were allocated a room on the top floor (as requested) with a balcony overlooking the harbour. A picture is attached of the view. (Great views from every window including the bathroom!!) Regarding some of the comments on the range complimentary breakfast and evening snacks - I feel what was provided is perfectly adequate as these are clearly not intended to be a replacement for a full blown dining experience! We made use of the evening snacks on our night of arrival which were perfect for what we needed after a long journey, together with the excellently stocked "honesty" bar. We found our breakfast each morning to be just what we were looking for in Boston (we were travelling to new York after Boston and were saving our fab diner breakfasts for then!!) and we were alone nearly every time we visited. All day tea and Starbucks coffee were also a big bonus, which can be taken to the room also (good nespresso coffee maker in room too). Location was great, close to the huge number of Italian restaurants.
We can also recommend Joe's on the waterfront just along from the hotel. Our experience was excellent if you are looking for good American fayre , with great steak and cocktails, good wines and truly great value and service (with superb views of the city and harbour)

I realize they're trying to make Fairmont Gold fancy, but the hotel seemed a little sad and threadbare. It's in a smaller building set back from the main hotel and farther away from the water. The complimentary food and drinks are sparse (the free continental breakfast was packed with people trying to elbow their way through the line for stale bagels). The internet, while free, was very slow, as was the cable connection on the t.v. Our room was small and very dark, and my side of the bed didn't have a night table. Picky, I know, but if a hotel is trying to sell itself as "luxury", the details count. On the bright side, the bathroom was wonderful, with a big, clean shower stall and amazing water pressure. Everyone who worked in the hotel was infallibly nice as well. Maybe I wouldn't be so critical if the valet service had not been such a hassle. We called for our car so we could make a performance we had tickets to, assuming the car would show up in ten minutes. After waiting outside for fifteen minutes, we asked the front desk to call the valet again. The valet told us they had brought out the car, waited for "over fifteen minutes" and then taken the car back to the garage! We had been waiting outside the entire time, and when they brought the car around again, it was driven past us and parked in front of the main hotel (even though we had repeatedly specified we were staying in the Gold building). After taking half an hour to get our car, we missed the performance we were trying to make. Worst of all, when we asked for the car again upon checkout, they parked it in the same place, out of eyesight of anyone waiting in the Gold hotel. To be fair, they erased the valet charges from our bill, but shouldn't part of luxury be great service?

We stayed only one night but it was a very pleasant one. The hotel is spotless and the room we had was excellent; spacious and well equipped. The hotel has nice views across the water and is ideally located in safe north end with loads of Italian restaurants two minutes walk (try Giacomo's, 355 Hanover St, it's a gem!). Staff we particularly helpful on checkout, where despite not having paid for breakfast, they insisted we have a bagel and freshly squeezed juice in the large reception area while we waited for the taxi (nice touch we thought). They also pro-actively checked loads of travel information for us and insisted we didn't have to lug our huge bags anywhere.
