I was unfortunate to be in Boston during Hurricane Sandy but fortunate to be in The Copley Square Hotel as it happened!
This is a stylish, well priced hotel offering free wi-fi in all areas (unlike almost everywhere else I stayed), freshly renovated, immaculate rooms and public areas in a magnificent old building and genuinely friendly and helpful staff. There was some scaffoldiif on the exterior of the building but it made no difference at all to our visit. I read other reviewers had issues with small rooms - this was not my experience but we had paid for an upgrade in advance.
As we couldn't go outside for 2 days during the storm we used more of the hotel facilities than I perhaps would have done otherwise. They offer a happy hour every night that turned into quite a party under the circumstances and 15% off any meals consumed in the dining room. Breakfast was excellent - one of the best I had in Boston, offering typical American (eggs, pancakes, bacon and maple syrup) through to more familiar and lighter options.
We were locked in by the storm so we had to stay in for dinner and I'm glad we did. Although the restaurant is basically a burger joint the food was delicious - fresh salad ingredients, choice of meats (breed and provenance detailed on the menu and by the staff) made to order, excellent hand cut fries... Everything you could ask for in a great burger really! The staff were delightful and the room very private and spacious with lots of comfortable nooks and banquettes. After dinner we cleared the table, ordered another bottle of wine and played scrabble all night (they have lots of wooden board games available). All in all an excellent experience under what were pretty trying circumstances.
Highly recommended.
