“Politics was never so interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

The tour took us through the State House giving a background into the emergence of the Boston City state and the mechanism of operating from origin to the present day. The tour guide, "Miss Mary", was very knowledgeable and aware of the audience and was able to keep the group together and enjoying the tour as we were shown the building almost in its entirety including the current chambers where all the decisions are made. Excellent upkeep meant the building was great to look at and walk through and a very enjoyable hour was spent here.

“Architecture and Gold Roof the Best Aspects”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Inside, it is just a rather typical building, but the exterior is worth photographing. It should be a part of your Freedom Trail Boston exploration.

“When you are in Boston don't miss the State House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

If you are a photograher come early in the morning and hope for sunny skies. The interior of the State House is beautiful with its yellow orange marble and tile floors. House and Senate chambers are stunning. Senate chamber is unique of all the states because it is in the round.
Be sure to look up in the rotunda to see the original 13 State Seals represented in stained glass.
My only gripe here is that they have chosen to hide the replica Liberty Bell on the second floor veranda in the front of the building where it can hardly be seen. This refects poorly on a state that was one of the founders. Bell should be displayed inside or outside in a prominent location like all the other states do. Self guided brochure is available at tour desk. House and Senate chambers open to self guided tours. Most convenient parking is in the underground Boston Common Parking Garage.

“If in Boston during the week, take the State House tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

This Freedom trail stop is much better appreciated by taking the State House tour that is offered from 10 AM - 3:30 PM on weekdays. Contact (617) 727-3676 to make arrangements. Don't miss the Sacred Cod in the house chamber or the muskets and the Holy Mackeral in the senate chamber. Very informative.

“A city gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

I have been here a few times and have still not visited the entire building. I get lost in the marble and the stained glass and suddenly 2 or 3 hours have gone by. I did manage to get a look at both the Holy Mackerel and the Sacred Cod and I do know what is under the golden dome but you'll have to visit yourself if you want to find out!
