I`m not a big fan of Malls, so shopping on this street worked well for me. The variety of shopping was good, there is everything from big corporate stores like Niketown to small independant retailers.
Newbury Street is a really cool street which is really good for shoppingand has a range of bars, cages and restaurants when you're ready for a rest or to people watch
Lots of great stores and good shopping in the area, some very high end but not all, a pretty good mix of price ranges and a parking garage right smack in the middle of it. The wife and I usually start here and subway around the rest of boston from here. Pretty easy walk to North end and faneuil hall.

What makes it nice is the buildings and character of the Back Bat area. Stores are fairly indifferent from the usual tatoo parlor to upscale stores found in every city in the country. Nice to walk aroudn windown shopping on a weekend but if you're in town for a few days/hours only, there are many better things to do in Boston.
