I went in expecting to have a quick look before heading to Charlestown. I did not know they have staff giving informational talks every 10-15 minutes. I ended up listening to the talks twice.
They explain why there are box/booths in the church, how families used to decorate their boxes, how the church played a part in the revolution, how the wooden angels that decorate the 2nd floor were stolen from a ship headed to Quebec, how the clock in front of the organ is the oldest handmade wooden clock in the US.
I especially appreciated the fact that, even though it is still home to an active religious community, the staff did not preach or talk about their religion, but instead focused on the historical value of the church.
Admission is free but you can make a donation. It was a very interesting visit! Don't skip this one!
