Owner description: The signal from the steeple of Boston's oldest church triggered the War for Independence that led to the birth of America. On that fateful night in 1775, the two lanterns in the steeple told Paul Revere that the British were approaching by boat, not on foot.

“Interesting historical site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

This is the church that "one if by land, two if by sea" is based on (one lantern would be lit if British were coming by land, two if coming by sea). Part of the Freedom Trail.

Interesting to go inside and see the small cubbies that the families sat in.

“More "must-see" around Boston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Historic as it gets... one if by land...well you know the rest. Another stop on the "Freedom Trail". Follow the red lines to see it all!

“Wish there was a tour guide.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

I stopped in on a Monday afternoon and was sad....no tour guide. There was someone at the door as you walk in, but no guided tours. You were able to mill around at your leisure and read the various plaques on the wall. A $3 donation got you a CD of organ music that was recorded on the pipe organ. Other than that, it was a neat old church. For the sake of history, it's a good place to say you have been, but certainly not worthy of a revisit. The gift shop was nothing noteworthy.

“Now the history is much more meaningful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

The beautiful tall and slender spire provided a sneak preview of what was to come. We were fortunate to arrive at the church just as a tour was beginning. The docent was very interesting and welcoming. We did not want to leave this historic place but finally did.

“Worth a walk through”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

It was fun to see such a piece of history. The church is well maintained. It was nice to go at our own pace & enjoyed being there.
