“Great place to visit on a sunny day with views of Boston Harbor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014 NEW

We were here on a beautiful summer Saturday...and lots of people BBQing, walking/running, fishing and taking advantage of the great weather.

The views of the Boston including some of the Harbor Islands and the JFK Presidential Library are amazing!

“Awesome, awesome, awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014 NEW

What a spectacular find! My husband and I were looking for something to do with our twin six year olds. They weren't in the right mood for a museum or a nature walk. They requested to go to a park. We were not looking to spend our vacation day at a run of the mill playground, we could do that any day. But Castle Island was so much more. We actually spent the first two hours we were there on the beach catching crabs, playing in the sand and getting our feet wet in the water. We eventually got hungry so we grabbed some food at Sullivan's and found a table in the shade to sit and relax and eat our lunch. We walked around Fort Independence and then finally made it to the playground. The playground was very large and had plenty of equipment for all the children there. My only suggestion would be to have the fort open on weekdays not just weekends. We would have loved to do the tour. But wow, what a great place to spend the day!

“Great views of the city and the harbor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

I love to go to Castle Island and walk around the island. Even when crowded it's still a great time. The milkshakes at Sullivans are great too!

“A nice afternoon in the park...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

Castle Island is a short cab ride from downtown and on a beautiful day it is a great place for a picnic lunch, a walk around the water or even a bit of swimming. It is more a beach than an island and the old Fort makes a pleasant backdrop. We picked up lunch at Sullivan's and ate in the shade of a tree. The fried clams and shrimp were delicious and the lobster roll was pretty good too. The line was long but moves quickly. They are very efficient.

My advice if you take a cab out there- get their number before they leave. There really didn't seem to be a lot of public transportation out that way. We used Uber to get back to the city. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon and to see where the locals relax.

“"Ages 1 - 90"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Castle Island is an all around enjoyable place. Ages 1 - 90 Castle Island has History, Swimming, Walking areas,, Biking areas, Fishing areas and Picnic areas, People are extremely friendly. There are benches along the water allowing great views of the air traffic coming in. Planes come so low you almost see the people in the passenger seats. Bring a camera (A MUST) The Historical Fort. that sits on Castle Island is an interesting read - it started out as a military hospital. Black Falcon Pier is next to the Island and you can view cruise ships leaving for their destination. There is a beautiful view of the harbor and all the boat activity. If you get hungry Sullivan's Food stand offers every thing from seafood to hamburgers and hot dogs to ice cream..Plenty of parking room and it's FREE.... I had not been there for almost 15 years and when we returned I still enjoyed the Island as if it were my 1st visit. VERY RELAXING - COME AND ENJOY!!
