My family had the good fortune of staying in the Grove Park Inn (GPI) for 2 nights and in the Downtown Renaissance Hotel for one night over the past weekend. Both are good at what they do but offer completely different experiences. The GPI is an excellent resort with unique features throughout and comfort is the best word to describe it. The golf course is fun but expensive and the lobby and service were fantastic. The Renaissance is typical of the upper end Marriott business hotels and offers a great location downtown to enjoy the restaurants and shopping of Asheville. There is not a problem with either although you'll pay almost twice as much to stay at the GPI.
