The Grove Park Inn is lovely if you don't eat there. We have had two of the worst trout dinners of our lives at the Grove Park Inn, which is near some rivers, I think. Fish was tasteless and undoubtedly frozen many months ago. The Horizons fancy restaurant featured a waitperson who stood right behind us and stared the entire time, ostensibly to give better service. My halibut tempura was no better than fish and chips. One meal, the seafood buffet, was good.

In its favor, the hotel's arts and crafts decor is stunning, as are the grounds. Go there but eat out--or bring a picnic.

We also had problems with room not being ready and a long wait. This place thinks it can get by with things like that because they are so famous. We don't plan to return.
