Up front it should be said that this is an older hotel property. And after staying there for several days I believe that the price is fair for what you get. While there are more up to date properties in the immediate vicinity which include much better accommodations overall, this hotel will provide a good night’s rest at a relatively low cost.
This hotel is an easy one block drive north of exit 50 of I-40 and will put you right into the action. Within five blocks north of the hotel you will find gas stations, a McDonalds, Arby’s, Moe’s, TGI Friday’s, Hardee’s, “brick and mortar store” shopping, and the entrance to the Biltmore Estates (among many other things). An Ingle’s grocery store is located within a short drive to the south on Hendersonville Road (Hwy 25). Food, entertainment, movie theaters, shopping, and everyday needs can be found within a short ten minute drive on Hendersonville Rd. Many of these places are within walking distance. The Ashville Airport is approximately 11 miles to the south. I do not believe a shuttle service is available (contact the hotel directly for more information).
First the good: I want to commend the house cleaning staff. We stayed at this hotel for five days, and every day they kept our room impeccably clean and orderly. They were very good about providing fresh clean towels and washcloths every evening. If you are looking for nothing more than a safe and clean place to sleep, they will make you feel comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.
Since there are only two floors, you do not have to wait a long time for a crowded elevator (which is typical in the larger multi-floored hotels).
The room provided the typical accommodations: standard hotel room size, TV with cable, desk, chair, microwave, bathroom, and refrigerator. Our room provided an additional sink and mirrors outside of the bathroom. On the ground floor each room has a sliding glass door that leads to a small concrete patio with patio furniture. The back door of each unit faces the hotel’s outdoor pool in the central courtyard. Individual rooms on the second floor have a small balcony with outdoor furniture. The rooms still have the older Cathode Ray Tube televisions (no flat screens). The room did have free wi-fi included.
Now the bad: The property itself is very old, and in many ways appears to be run down. The carpeting in the hallways is very old. Considerable renovations are necessary if this property wishes to catch up with other hotels in the area. (Remember however that “old” doesn’t necessarily mean dirty. We were very pleased with the cleanliness of our room).
The hotel is not one single building, but instead several buildings that surround a small courtyard. They do not connect directly to the main office so you will have to walk outside to reach the front desk and continental breakfast. This hotel may have limited accommodations for the disabled, as I don’t remember seeing any wheelchair ramps, or elevators within our specific unit. Contact the hotel directly for more information.
The walls of the room we stayed in were very thin, and we could hear our neighbors’ conversations fairly clear. So if you are a light sleeper this may pose a problem.
Don’t expect any spectacular vistas from the hotel.
The continental breakfast was very limited and was probably my biggest disappointment. They provided cereal, bagels, muffins, milk, juice, and coffee. Don’t expect a hot bar with eggs, sausage etc. The eating area was crammed between the front desk and the “business center.” On most mornings we skipped breakfast and headed to the McDonalds down the road.
A computer with printer was available to guests in the front office. Though due to the close quarters, privacy is limited.
Overall, if you are not looking for spectacular accommodations, don’t mind the limited fare of the continental breakfast, don’t mind an older property, and are just looking for a cheap place to lay your head I think you will be satisfied with this hotel. The price is very fair for this hotel. You get what you pay for.
If you pick a room far away from the doors there may be less noisy traffic
