“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

This hotel was great with the exception of only having one elevator. We stayed here during a weekend trip to the Biltmore Estate. The hotel stay allowed us to get an excellent deal on Biltmore tickets. There are lots of places to eat nearby and a mall within walking distance. My husband and I both were very pleased with out stay and would definitely stay here again!

We stayed here recently while in town for a Summer Concert Series event at the Biltmore Estate. Our usual choice of hotel was not available this time, and after much searching and reading of reviews, we finally decided on this Comfort Suites.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel close to the Biltmore Estate and the interstate, I recommend this one. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The overall appearance of the hotel is very clean and well-kept. Our room was very large and included a small sofa sleeper. We never heard noises from the rooms on either side of us nor from the road.

For all of the good I can say about this hotel, there were a few issues that may make a difference to someone's decision about staying here.

First, there is only one elevator for this hotel. We had to wait a few minutes for it upon check-in on Friday evening, which was no big deal and not much more than other waits with other hotels. Leaving for the concert that same evening, the hotel lobby was full of guests waiting for the elevator because not everyone could fit on it with their luggage. The next morning, we went down to check out the breakfast. After checking out the breakfast (more on that later), we decided to go ahead and check out and find some place else to eat. The first elevator to arrive, we could not use because one of the housekeeping staff was on it with her cart of supplies. The second elevator finally arrived with another member of housekeeping who was getting off on our floor. She held the door for us and another family to enter the elevator. It wasn't until we got on that we realized we were going up instead of down. The next floor stop, we picked up a family of four. That made for a total nine people, three of whom (us) had luggage. We then made stops on every floor on the way to the ground floor with no one being able to enter the elevator because it was too full. It took us a total of ten minutes from waiting for the elevator to finally entering and reaching the ground floor. My best advice, during peak times, use the stairs. There are only five floors in this hotel, so unless you have a health condition that would not make using the stairs an option, use the stairs.

We stayed on the fourth floor. One reviewer I read stated the rooms were very quiet, with no noise from outside. Our room was very quiet, but we heard lots of noise in the hallway. Doors opening and closing and people talking in the hallway until approximately 12:15 a.m.

The room is very big, but the bathroom is extremely small. To close the door once inside the bathroom, you must stand between the toilet and the sink. There is no vent in the bathroom, so if someone is trying to shave or apply makeup while someone else is in the shower, it is very difficult, especially since the only mirror in the room is in the bathroom.

Breakfast selection looked decent and exactly what you would expect from a Comfort Inn. We chose not to eat breakfast here because the entire area was so small. The layout of the food area was good, but It was difficult to walk between the stations and the full tables.

I know I have written some comments that are not very flattering, but we would definitely choose to stay here again. These are issues of which we are now aware and know how to better navigate next visit. They are also the types of issues I would have preferred to have known about before arriving, which is why I have written about them.

Because we arrived late and left early, we did not have an opportunity to check out any other amenities in this hotel.

We stayed here after researching and finding that it was close to the Biltmore Estates and reasonably priced. The hotel was very clean, the exercise room had great equipment, it was close to a mall, even though most stores are closed and others are in the process of closing and it was very close to the interstate which is a positive.

We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your recent stay with us. We appreciate your patience during breakfast, when we have a full house it can get crowded. We have Charter Cable but we do apologize that it went out during a storm. We hope that you will stay with us the next time you visit Asheville!

We had a wonderful time at this hotel while visiting the Biltmore Estate. The rooms were large and clean, breakfast was great and the service was excellent. At the front desk they sold tickets to the Biltmore, $50 for a two day pass.

We booked our 3 night stay at the Comfort Suites Biltmore Square Mall through Priceline and got an excellent deal. The property is centrally located about 15 minutes from both the Biltmore Estate and downtown Asheville and is 100% smoke free.

The room looked and smelled clean and the furnishings were in good shape with only two very minor wear and tear issues. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were small and uncomfortable. If you are a picky about your pillows, bring your own. The room was equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, a 40” flat screen TV, free WIFI and the quietest A/C unit you could ask for.

Even though our room was only twenty feet down the hall from the elevator I was amazed at how quiet it was. We never heard the elevators open or close, we were never disturbed by noise from other guests as they walked past our room our when they opened and closed their doors and we never heard a single noise from outside the hotel. This was the quietest room I have ever stayed in.

The staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations for local restaurants. The front desk manager, Kelly, even offered me a couple slices of her pizza when I asked her about the best place to order pizza from.

By the way, if you order pizza, call Flavilla’s, it was the best pizza I have had in years and I would rate amongst the best I have ever had.

The free hot breakfast included waffles, omelets, sausage, biscuits and gravy and the usual assortment of cold offerings along with juices, tea, coffee and milk. My wife said the omelet she had the first day was not so good after sitting in the warmer but the second day she got one when they first brought them out and it was good. I had the make your own waffle and sausage both days and both were very good. Considering it was free, you can’t beat it!

The pool is on the small side but still big enough to get in and cool off. The pool and pool area were both very clean and there is plenty of seating if you want to lie out. Towels are provided pool side.

I only have two negative remarks about the Comfort Suites:

1. There is only one elevator for both staff and guests. During peak times we waited 5+ minutes for the elevator and hoped it is was not full when it got there. Also, the stairs are not centrally located. We were on the 4th floor and I have a bad knee so the stairs we not an option for me but even if they were, it would have been very inconvenient to use the stairs instead of waiting on the elevator.

2. The bathroom in our room was so small I had to step in between the toilet and the sink to open/close the door and there is no vent fan but it does have a hair dryer. This was only a minor inconvenience but one I thought worth mentioning.

Overall we were very happy with the Comfort Suites and its staff. The daily wait for the elevator put a real damper on an otherwise excellent stay and it cost the Comfort Suites a star in my review. With a second elevator I would have given them 5 stars.

I was surprised that this is a 100% non-smoking hotel. Even immediately outside the front lobby there is a sign to ask people to go somewhere else to smoke. Just like the other reviewer said, the breakfast area is kind of small for this size hotel. May be they can do a different configuration of the seating. The front desk is friendly, the room is clean. I got a handicapped room even I didn't ask for one. Overall it is a pleasant stay.
